Got a companion for my Sedan Delivery. First seen in Sept and bought mid Nov. Hauled down from Northern MI to SW CO by a Russian guy who spoke 0 English. Lots of new parts on it and is a fresh build, very clean. More to come....

First time I ever saw a VW hood used for a visor, like to see others who've done it also _________________ "A life of peace and happiness depends on your own gratefulness" |

That is really cool! I have always liked Bug pickups. I feel they work a bit better with a type 3 cooling system and a lower bed floor (more usable), but that is pretty rare.
What are your plans for this? I notice the faux '40 Ford hood, I think front '66 down fenders with Rossi headlights would look great with that hood (harking to the '40 Ford style, but with the parking lights at the bottom).
I really enjoy the diversity of ideas I see in the Kit Car/Fiberglass Buggy forum. All the best creative minds hang out here! _________________

No special plans. My 65 w bgw hood looks better w early fenders- don't they all?! I go through ALL systems when I get a new vehicle, both for safety and peace of mind. I was very surprised to find that the power-in terminal for the oil and alt warning lights was wired to ground and no power to warn lights---- so was running off battery only. I swapped rubber fuel line to metal, adj brakes, rejet carb, tune, 3 point seat belts to replace lap belts, weld clutch tube, cooling tin corrected at doghouse and a few minor things. Took her out for a 20 mile cruise and happy Overall. No heat tho- j tubes
They sure are nice w a type3 engine setup, but those builds do seem uncommon. The bed is built to flip up on gas shocks, but it is strong and I'm sure I could tie stuff down on it if needed. _________________ "A life of peace and happiness depends on your own gratefulness" |

That is one sweet looking truck! I have always been partial to the '40 Ford hood conversion and that truck suites it to a tee!
There are of course a few changes I would make too including the type 3 or 4 engine swap. _________________ Our cars get old, we get old but driving an old VW never gets old! |

Similar to one of my favorite Bug-truck conversions. With a little suspension work and some wheels......

GS guy - that thing needs a top chop and some lower seats! But still very cool. Tom _________________ Manxter #16, 1968 Meyers Manx & Kick-Out SS #16 (WIP)

Ya, if you are 5' tall or less it would work... no room to lay the seat back for us regular guys.
I personally love those wheels and stance. Suit the truck perfectly. _________________ Our cars get old, we get old but driving an old VW never gets old! |

Here is a chopped one that used to attend the local VW shows. I think he had a matching mini boat/trailer for it. The guy wasn't real tall..

This one has a modified or different manufacturer hood than the OP’s hood. It looks much better. The chopped one is the Willy’s version, I think. _________________ 1973 standard, yellow, lowered, 3” narrowed front, 1600 blo-thru turbo w/single dell 15.4@86, so far

Access is good from above. Looking for a bus decklid, to cut up and fab a tailgate.

| Looks really sharp! Not to start an argument but, you may want to monitor your oil temp or cylinder head temp. It looks like it will get pretty toasty in the engine compartment with the exhaust exposed to the engine fan intake. |

Put a plastic cover over the battery. Rain or wash water otherwise appears to be able to run onto the top of said battery. That will wash acid residue down and cause corrosion below.
The Porsche 914 had a similar battery placement in so far as rain and wash water. This caused extensive corrosion, and even fires do to acid eating thru nylon fuel lines! Factory recall was a plastic battery cover.
Keep water off the top of that battery!!!!! _________________ Sorry About That Chief.

Wow that makes sense since any water would wash debris down. Battery areas in general always produce troubles anyway. A cover will be made. Thanx
I was giving some thought to engineering some aluminum shields above the exhaust.. Heat will exit better when I get to make a( even more) vented tailgate piece from a cut decklid. I'd like to have it louvered on the outside, w closures on inside for cold weather. Plan is to cut/weld decklid to fit existing framed access and hinge mount it like on bus. Not sure how to get it louvered though. _________________ "A life of peace and happiness depends on your own gratefulness" |

Working on heat shields to separate exhaust heat from intake.Fitting in for final trim.
I'm no airflow engineer but I think it will help. _________________ "A life of peace and happiness depends on your own gratefulness" |

I gotta say, of all the Bug truck box beds I’ve seen that BGW bed is the most natural looking one I have seen, and the rear fenders really complete it. _________________
