So, I'm bound and determined to not grenade my motor again from detonation. At present the boost is limited to 5 pounds. The NA motor was quite happy at 32 degrees BTDC. Because the deck is much tighter, I have backed the off boost timing to 30 degrees BTDC. I have also changed my boost timing to 17 degrees BTDC at max planned (10 psi) boost

Am I missing anything else from a "starting" tune?

My wife is the best shop assistant ever! She helped me get the motor down onto the lift table and back into the buggy! Thanks Mrs slayer!

Systems are being checked off.
Mounting hardware, done.
Oil system, done, but I left the filter off to remind me to add oil.
Turbo and balance of intake system, done.
Throttle cable, done.
Still need to finish fuel line and A/F sensor connection, then we do loop checks and system checks before start up!

It runs! Huzzah! No issues this time, no oil leaks, nothing. It fired up, but no real testing today, it's 30 degrees out and too cold for a buggy ride Evil or Very Mad I kinda like the sound of the new exhaust too. I might end up keeping it.

Happy new year my friends

Looking good!! I look forward to a full report on test runs down the street! Very Happy

I got tired of asking my wife or neighbor for help with moving engines - I bought a table cart similar to this from Craigslist, it's one of my favorite tools:

Happy New Year!

Yup. That's exactly the one I got. It doesn't reach the height of the table. That's where my wife came in. And it doesn't go low enough for the buggy, so I ended up jacking up the buggy to suit the cart. Win, win baby!

Happy New Year everyone!

It was warm enough today to do some low speed jet testing around the neighborhood Very Happy I figured as long as I kept it to a "reasonable" speed, the neighbors would continue to wave, and not shake their fists.

I believe i have the idle jet portion sorted out for now. At a 2krpm cruise, I get an AFR of about 13. Anxious to feel the new turbo stretch it's legs, I stepped into it a little bit and 3 pounds of boost at partial throttle!

Looking forward to main jet testing Twisted Evil

Be well everyone

They sure make it easy to install or remove an engine. To install I jack the back of the buggy just enough put jack stands under the rear torsion housing. Then with an old scissor jack I raise the front end of the buggy enough that the engine is a strait shot onto transaxle. The engine sits nice and secure on the lift, no balancing required.

Thanks to the samba and the members, I've received a lot of suggestions and assistance towards getting this problem child to idle and not blow up again. It has been suggested that my cam is too big for the turbo, that the rockers have too much lift. So a $10 purchase from the samba classifieds for a set of stock 1.1:1 rockers seems like a cheap test. Hell, it's cheaper than another couple of dcoe jets. We'll find out soon enough...

Stay tuned!
