I bled brakes today, experimented with drilling hole in brake fluid reservoir cap and install valve stem. It held pressure when pumped up and it did work somewhat to get air out of lines. I had a couple loose fittings that I tightened and then recruited my son to pump brakes.

Nice progress! FYI I found a 16oz Coke bottle cap fits perfectly on the brake fluid reservoir to keep from drilling into a good spare cap....

That's good to know a Coke bottle cap fits. I bought out a closed shop's inventory years ago and the mechanic was Depression era and saved EVERYTHING. I have at least a half dozen reservoir caps. Very Happy

I put title in my name and ordered plates, put insurance on it and took it to glass shop yesterday for the first real drive.

Put 6 gallons of gas in and fuel gauge works. I only went to 45 mph or so, I have an alignment scheduled first thing Monday morning.

I used West coast metric window rubber and it looks really good but drove this morning in the rain and noticed a few dribbles in the corners. Not sure what to do about that...

On the way to store this morning the wipers quit. E clip fell off the motor so the linkage did too. I need to pull wiper assembly and figure out what is going on but all in all it drives pretty good. With no tar board insulation in engine compartment and no carpet or sound deadener on package tray it is super loud
but for now, fun to drive!

I took the 65 in for alignment early this morning. Temp was 25 degrees and defrost was working, on drivers side anyway. I suspect the mice chewed hose down in Bermuda Triangle on passenger side. There has been a lot of fluff from the mice blowing out of defrost vent, pretty gross but I had decent heat driving in. I bought some original VW used heat exchangers from classifieds and they put out more heat than a nos pair of Dansk heater boxes I used on one of my other bugs. I need to plug some holes to keep cold air out to keep it a little warmer.

The windshield looks like it isn't seated all the way or something. The rubber looks too thick, and the glass looks flush with the aperture. It's supposed to be slightly inset. That might explain your leak. Is it oem glass?

I agree that it looks like it is not seated but I can't see how it would fit any different. Seal is seated on inside. I can lift the outside of seal with fingers to see the inside of channeling that doesn't seem correct. It is a West Coast Metric Cal look seal and windshield is not OEM. I bought this from an auto glass company on eBay day after I bought the bug in October 2024. I wondered if glass was not as thick as OEM glass?
I was using compressed air to try to get the mouse stuffing loose in heater channel and when I blew air on inside of windshield it would blow water out of the front.....
On a positive note the alignment is done and it drives nice and straight.

Casey

The glass might be a hair too big for the opening or something. Once it's in the right position it kinda sucks back into the opening. Looks like that hasn't happened.
