I am thinking about buying a 1968 Crew Cab. However, I have searched and cannot come up with any vendors, wolfsburg west, west coast, etc. I just cannot find anything on these crew as far as ordering parts. Any advice on this would be great.

Thanks
Gary

Most parts are the same as the bus of the same year. '68 has lots of one year only stuff and is covered here all the time. The best way to go is to make a list of the parts you need and watch the Samba classifieds. It's not as hard as you would think, as long as you are creative and patient.
Buy the DC...we can always use more people with them hear in the forums.

Thanks Chris. I have actually been told that about most of it being the same as the same year bus. I just thought that the crew would be like the different types of beetles, buses, etc as far as access to ordering parts.

- doors for treasure box
- seals for treasure box
- locks for treasure box
- mirrors (widebed SC)

DC:

- door for crewcab
- crewcab window seal/glass unqiue
- rear bench
- door panels

I'm not sure this is what you're wanting, but...

Both:
- Side Gates
- Rear Gate
- Gate hinges
- Gate "keepers" (not sure what these are called, but the hooks that hold the gates to each other on the side/rear and to the cab on the front)
- Sheet Metal on back of cab?
- tie offs on top of gates.
- headliner? (not sure, but seems like it would be different)

Hi Gary,
You need to be way more specific.

The rear popout window latches in a '68 DC I saw definitely looked different than anything I was familiar with. Can anyone confirm that?

The popout latches are the same. As far as DC/SC only parts:

-drop gates, latches ,and rubber bumpers, of course larger sides for SC
-rear quarters, battery tray etc., both
-rear window and seal, both
-cargo door seals, there are two, DC
-side rear window seals, DC
-rear seat stand and clamps, DC
-bumpers, the commercial line is a thicker guage, both
-cargo door check strap and pin, DC
-rear door panels, seats, and headliner, DC
-expensive to replace dealer options, as mentioned, both
-tool chest doors and latches, SC
-cargo bed and strips, different lengths for both, but similar
-center seat stand rubber???? If not the same as bus, both
-rear floor mat, DC only
-cab divider, DC, but same as bus
-rockers, short DC with door, long SC with chest
-back seat heat control knob and hardware, DC but same as bus
-firewall, both
-fuel tank access panels, DC
-fuel filler neck, breather, and pipe, both

I'll add more as I think of them.

I think that the DC also had little rubber "latches" behind the rear seat that kept the seat belts from getting tangled up. I can't recall ever seeing them on busses.

My SC has those too. They aren't different, right?

Great list by the way.

wileysc71,I think the access panels are the same. I mislabelled that one.

splitty, where are the "latches"?? Are they for shoulder strap belts? I know there are rubber bumpers behind the seat, but mine has lap belts.

Man, how can I describe them...I pulled them off my 71 DC and sold them to a guy in San Jose last year. Unfortunately, I didn't have my 69 DC yet and they weren't on there. Mad
Open the 3rd door and lift the seat that your back leans on. Approx. 2 feet in you will see a rubber plug, or a provision hole for one. Just to the left of that you will see another hole. Reach underneath and you will feel the bolt hole of where this bracket goes. It looks somewhat like an upside-down shoe horn. Steve Savilla of San Jose, if you're reading this take the darn picture already Smile !!!
I'm going to email him and see if he can send me the pic of the part I sold him.

FWIW, in case either of you are keeping a list. I posted this in another message and didn't want it to get lost.

Treasure Chest Lock for Early Bay - Part # 261 829 561B

Not sure when it switched, but I looked at a '71 lock and it was "C" on the end - not "B". So I'm assuming, '68-70 used this. But that's a guess.

Here's what the rear bench seat belt anchor looks like:

Hey Tristan, I thought you said you couldn't post pics...looks like a good job to me. Very Happy I've never seen that seatbelt mount. A local shop has a DC parts truck and I'm going to see if they have those. Here's another shot of it from Tristan:

BTW, my seatbelts were bolted to the frame the same way, only without the "anti-tangle bracket".

Good question. I dunno. I only have the passenger side chest.

As far as I can tell (mein eyes and mein fiche), the doors are identical mirrors of each other.

BTW, M71 is the the m-code for the factory double locking compartment. Too bad it wasn't offered more often:

I should scan that brochure sometimes. Everything in it looks fabulous.

When I saw the gray canvas on green I really got hooked on singlecabs.
