O.K.
I just recently choped my 77 and made it a Baja. It has a 69 engine in it, so.....
I bought a Tri-mil Bobcat exhaust and put it on. Took the old heater boxes off and everything. Then It starts to backfire ALOT. So I redo the points, and reset timing, and reset the Carb. I still backfire. Then I noticed that I burned a hole in one of my plug wirs so when I changed it out the engine prefromance was the same. Next I pulled the plug wire off the 3 & 4 on the distributer and no change I pull the 1 & 2 and the engine dies! I have spark going to all cylinders and the coil is good so I am very confused and need someones imput! Please some one help!!!!!!! I am ready to shoot her and put her out of her misery!

How did it run before?
Did it backfire before you changed the exhaust? If not, I would assume you have a severe exhaust leak.

It ran great. The preformance improved once I put the new nuts on the exhaust but it still backfired not as bad but it still backfired. I even redid all the points and timing and carb settings too. What do you think about the pistons not firing?

OK, 3 &4 had no change so there is either no fire to those cylinders or no or little compression .Check your plugs cap rotor firng order & wires to those two. Do a compression check on 3&4. This will narrow it down to either an ignition problem or compression problem.Did you readjust the valves? If You did you may want to recheck them as well. Good luck.

Have you double checked the firing order? It almost sounds as though you might just have 3&4 wires reversed. These things will run on just 2 cylendars, very badly though, even if the wiring is wrong.

The Firing order is correct. I went back and rechecked it. I am recieving Spark, but for some reason the cylinders just wont work. I checked the gap I checked to timing, I checked everything. I am running a bobcat Tri-mil exhaust if this helps at all. I don't think that it should make a diffrence.
