The V.W. gods saw fit to smite me once again this weekend. This last sunday was so beautiful. 70 degrees and not a cloud in the sky, I decided to wash the old 'Back and cruise her to the beach. I threw on my best beach bum aparrel and loaded the family into the car for what was sure to be a good day out. Half way down Beach Blvd though, the V.W. god of Wrath struck my V.W. right in the passengers side rear axle. Apparently I hadn't tightened my other axle nut to the full 220 ft./lbs. and the axle stripped out the rear drum. I limped my way into a parking lot and ($95. and a flatbed later)parked the Back into my parking stall to await more weekly funds for repair. I called up my friend who is also an enthusiast and after a few chuckles and some teasing, informed me that this is the breaks if you want to own a V. troubleyou. I love my car to death but how much abuse can a mortal take? |

Much much more. I have been daily driving type 3's since I was 17. Wait 'till you have a nice fire in the engine compartment about $150 away from home!

Having the brakes go out in my westfalia 600 miles from home while on vacation left a real warm and fuzzy feeling in my stomach. But its worth all the trouble! |

try idling 8 miles because of a broken throttle cable. i was lucky enough that it was midnight and not much traffic was out. i now know that a 69 ghia will idle in fourth at about 10 mph. |

One time l was on my way thought the dessert from Yuma Az to Phoenix in my 58 beetle. l stopped at a Rest Area to let her cool down and do my bussiness. When l got back in to go there was a bus full of chicks right next to me so l loaded up my 1915cc and went to drop the clutch, like a stupid kid, and the throttle cable broke. l was miles from anywhere. The only thing l could think to do was ask a truck driver for a wire hanger. l ran the hanger through the fan shroud and tied it to the broken throttle cable under the tanny and hit the high way. the hanger kinked as it went through the shroud and l had cruise control in my 58 all the way there. but when l got there l had to shut it off at every light cause it would fun at about 3500rpms when l hit the clutch. damn that trip sucked. not to mention that it was 110 out side that day. the Vw god must have a sence of humor. |
