Giving a thumbs up to the Thing Shop for their seat upholstery kits. Two of us rebuilt my seats this past weekend with zero upholstery experience, and the finished front seats look amazing! The original ones were trashed & one even had an old mouse nest (complete with acorn bits) in it. Some of the flat metal spring supports had dislodged themselves from their original tack-welds, but we easily reattached them by drilling small 4mm holes & fastening them with stainless steel bolts and lock washers. Sanded the rusty frames, gave them a fresh coat of paint & we were ready to upholster. The two most difficult parts were straightening the sharp metal tabs on the frame while taking care to not break them (you need them to attach the new vinly), and attaching a backing sheet to the spring frame with hog rings. We managed to do it without a hog-ring pliers, but it took some time to learn the right technique. I would recommend getting the right tool, but they are difficult to find. Everything else (the coconut/latex forms, fake sheepskin padding, and vinyl upholstery covers went into place quickly and easily. This is a good, inexpensive product (apx $125) that really makes a difference. |
