Which bushings are you referring to? Link pin bushings or torsion arm bushings?

if you are reffering to the beam bushings the torsion arms ride on, i bought mine from isp west.they were not going in unless you press them in and they also needed to be fitted via hone. not hard or rocket science just lots of patience to get them to fit.

good luck.

I used a drift and a big hammer to drive in the bushings. This was the hardest part of the job.

The workshop manual calls for this drift along with a big hammer. I'll use a press when I do the set for the yellow '56 Westy but when I did the '56 I didn't pull the beam.

They turn up on eBay every few months or so and usually fetch between $100-$300 depending on who's looking at them.

I've got the same type of bushings in my 56 oval. How did you get the old ones out? I was thinking to cut throuhh them w/ a sawzall and remove them in 2-3 pieces. I tried a slide hammer w/ no luck Crying or Very sad

The bushings are slightly smaller in size in an oval. The "Tools of local manufacture" book has instructions on how to make a tool to remove these. It's basicly a drift similar to the drum race drifts but mounted on the end of a 4' pole. Don't forget to pull out your grease fittings. The workshop manual also shows a "puller" for the bushings but that would be a bit more challenging to make.

As the old saying goes, "if they ain't broke don't fix it". Measure you're bushings and if they're within spec., leave them there.....
