|
|
I have an 82 "regular flavour" vanagon with none of the fancy add-ons. Today I came across the swivel seat base from an 87 westy (for free!) and I was wondering if it's possible to mount this on the passenger seat in my van. The van it came off of had a solid piece in between the seat runners that this swivel bolts to (with four bolts) and mine just has a gaping hole in it's place. Is this middle piece removable too? I didn't have a very good chance to look at it earlier. Any help would be very much appreciated!

Yes you need that piece. Get a grinder and grind off the welds that hold it down. Then just reweld it to your bus, or take it and have it done. Its a easy thing to do. I just put one in my 78 bus from a vanagon. It will be easier to take one from a vanagon and replace it in a vanagon. I had to do a lil grinding here and there to get mine to fit.
Go get that piece or go to a junk yard and get one there.

| Thanks for your help! I can't wait to install this thing in my van. People will get in the back and i'll turn around with a white cat in my lap, all evil looking, and say "Welcome to my above-ground van, Mr. Powers!" |

I just put a swivle pass seat in my '87 Weekender. I got the swivle and base out of a camper. Rather then welding it on to the seat rails of my van I put a hinge on the front edge of the swivle base and a lockable latch on the rear. I now have a swivle seat that I can tilt forward to access the storage area (lockable) under the seat.

| That's a neat idea, but what sort of hinges did you use? Regular door hinges or a different kind? I'm interested in trying this... |
