The head gaskets are a known issue for the EJ25 (2.5L). That was the reason for S.O.A. to introduce the blue bottle of coolant conditioner.

Head gaskets just replaced on my daughter's '97 Outback this last fall at 93,000 mi.

More power and head gasket leaks - a perfect replacement for the 2.1 WBX!
