I'm trying to get my newly purchased sand rail going good. the motor revs fine until I'm in gear and put a load on it then it bogs down and dont wanna move. its a DRLA-40 and has been on the rail for a while as far as I know so I'm guessing all the jets and stuff are correct. I've never had a dellorto and dont know how to adjust em or anything. someone point me in the right direction please. I will be getting the dell- service manual soon so that might help just wanna see what you all can come up with for me thanks. |

If the manual you are waiting for is the CB Performance one it will have almost everything you need to know except where to buy replacement parts. |

I have been running that same carb for about five years now. It sounds like the Idle jets to me. There are four jets on top of the carb. The idle jets are the shorter ones. The main jets don't really do anything until about 2500 rpms. Try loosening the idle jets as far as they will go. They will just be laying there don' remove them. do this one side at a time. after you loosen one rev the engine up to about 3000 and while it is reved up put your hand over that side of the carb to choke it. do this several times on each side. tighten them back up and see if that cures your problem. If not remove them and clean them. Also blow out the passages with a compressor. You can get a rebuild kit for about 50 bucks. |

I've since found that half the motor wasnt working and have been on another posting, right now the one half only runs if I partialy cover that sides velocity stack. would your remedy work in this case? |

Yes, It is definately the Idle jet on that side. I went through the same thing when I bought my buggy except I had to study manuals and ask local people many Questions. When you partially choke that side It causes more suction through the Idle jet passage. It needs to be cleaned out. When you loosen the idle jet it will probably run on that side without choking it by hand. If this happens then you will know your problem. |

The idle jets are notorious for getting debris into them. I bought an upgrade kit for mine through CB Peformance. It comes with jet extensions that get the intake up above the plate making it more difficult for debris to fall into them and also comes with additional parts to improve the performance of the carbs.

I am sorry I'm not computor savy enough to set up a link for you, but the web search would be CB Performance.com. They now have the jet extenders sold separately. They are called jet doctors part#7348 selling for around $16.00 a carb. The update kits for 40 mm sell for about $129.00 a kit for two carbs and the part # is 7345. The update kit ended my constant jet plugging and make my carbs much more responsive to throttle input. |

i second that blu bug..i also had constant idle plugging on my dual's..it took me awhile to decide whether or not to go with that update kit..i finally had enough of cleanin my jets, so i made the plunge and purchased the kit..LOVE it..wish i would have done it way sooner!!!i have not had a plugged jet since and the performance was much better.. |
