|
|
These rims were on a '78 Champagne convertible that had just about every formula vee option put on it. I had initially gone back to a set of Lemmertz rims to put the car back into a stock configuration. After attending several southwest VW shows for the last six years and not coming across a similar set, I am now wondering if I should restore them and put 'em back on the car.
SEBeetles.com shows the same set on a Champagne II, and calls them "cyclone period accessory rims" (http://www.sebeetles.com/champagne2.htm).
Any ideas on what they are, who sold them, and if they are common?

| I have them listed as Westerns. They're a 70's thing, see them sometimes on kit cars, etc. Westerns has made other rims also. They're not really collectible rims, I've probably seen at least 3 sets in the past but I don't really pay attention to them. I'm guessing $200-300/set in average condition, give or take?? |

| The more common ones I've seen sold for roughly that much or more. Western made a few different types. Pricing them is hard since it's really what the buyer's willing to pay when you can find a buyer |

Thanks guys.
My dad suggested that they should have some type of center cap, expressing dislike of the exposed axle nut and cotter keys. Looking at the ads under "western rims", it looks like they had some type of cap used on them. I'll probably polish them up and hang onto them. They've got to be more rare than the turtleback rims. _________________ 1961 Bullfight Scene Herbie, "Ocho", from Herbie goes Bananas |

| yes, more rare but turtlebacks are more desireable, worth more, and easier to sell |
