I need to know if the ragtop mechanism I need is barndoor only. This includes rails and bows. Basically everything. Im willing to use a non barndoor rag mechanism if it will work but hopefully Lind or someone here can answer this. _________________ GFK

I Believe the rails are the same as '58 and earlier, they have the plastic insert. I think the mechanism is the same as '58 and earlier too....

I agree on the rails, though I believe the mechanism is the same through 67 but the handle changes to a hinged style in 64. the early header bows in the 50-52 years also had the vin # stamped on the mechanism.

yeah, the rails are pretty much it. the grooved sunroof handle changed in mid '64, so you will need a pre '64 header bow and a grooved handle and the rails with the plastic insert. the rails are really hard to find. I have only had one set which I traded to a friend of mine because he needed them for his '52 sunroof standard. the early rails were used through june of '59.

hmm...sorta timely! I'm looking for a sunroof mechanism and rails for my barn standard sunroof if some kind soul has one or knows of one for sale. Not fussed about year correctness at this time - anything is better than nothing!

Actually Wolfsberg buses have a different front header bow. You can tell the 55 and older ones because they have at least 6 large Philips screw across the bottom. Also the top part of the header bow is made up of 3 pieces of metal welded together like a rear press bumper. If you do find one you can check the inside mechanism and they will have a date stamp. The one I have is dated 12.54 and a friend of mine had one dated 10.54 that he picked up at Bug-O-Rama for $100. I don't think the seller knew what he had. I can put up some picture tomorrow night if you want to see some.

My '58 sunroof standard had the header bow you just described in it. |
