4 lug empi sprint star wheels!

I just got a clean set of original empi sprint star wheels 4 lug. They do have some scratches do to age. My question is when I restore these wheels does anyone know if they ever came new chrome and black or is that the reproduction wheels only. Mine currently are painted silver and black and look pretty good but I'm considering chroming and painting like the reproductions, but maybe I'm anal but if this isn't how they would have come I don't think I'm going through with the trouble. I want people to know that I didn't just go out and buy some reproductions, thats one reason why I stayed away from the empi eight spoke wheels. Where I'm from everyone has 8 spokes and nobody has ever even heard of sprint stars

I have seen some originals that were chrome. The one's on my fastback were just the painted ones. By the way they suck to tape off to paint. They were originally painted black then the silver was painted on top of that. (take a look at my fastys wheels in the readers rides forum)
