If it's anything like a '73 (which i'm pretty sure it is) I have some bad news for ya.
Took me about 4 hours to do both doors, inside and out, running new felt also. _________________ Spun a rear drum? check this out |

No, you must remove the window glass and, if you have one, it is best to remove the vent window assembly to do it properly. I had to do this on my 65 Beetle. Look for an earlier thread started by me concerning this...(www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=310776&highlight=) ...it may help. I also got a lot of help from an exterior restoration DVD I ordered from Jbugs.com. Hope this helps. _________________ the enemy of good is better. |

Removing the glass is no big deal. And if you are replacing the scraper, its a great time to replace the felts as well. _________________ Mother Nature is a Mean Evil Bitch! |

Here's the rub....being the genius that I am, I replaced everything...new vent wing seal, new felts and left the outside scraper for last not realizing that I would have this much trouble getting it in. Can I drop the window without removing everything I have already done? Thanks |

MPH1970 - I just did it this weekend (inside and outside scrapers). It is really easy and no big deal:
If you (after taking the door panels off) just take out the screws that hold the window mechanism, you'll be able to push the mechanism down a little (no need to take the window or the mechanism out!!!). Now you can somewhat easily put the scraper in (be patient and don't mess up your paint!). My tip: put the clamps in the scraper first and then push them in with an angled flat screwdriver or that thing you use to pop out the claps of the panels - $10 at Autozone - which might be a good investment anyhow).
It'll be easy! |
