heres a few pics of the progress ive made on the 1600 turbo build im doing.im still waiting for parts but its going along real well so far.yesterday i welded up the t-section intake,it curves a bit to clear the alt.i also welded up the dump pipe and im fitting everthing to go out for chrome hopefully this week.i had a local guy cnc the flanges for the dump on the turbo and the compressor side.theres also a pic of the aeromotive fuel pressure regulator(boost sensitive)that im using and other parts.the header and intake that bolts to the carb are pieces from brothers vw shop.the carb is a dell that i got from tkisner a while back.the shroud is getting replaced with one without the duct cutouts.the turbo is a gt25 from garrett.ill keep you posted as to the progress.

Cool build! Looks nice. I take it you're going with the stock cam and ratio rockers. You're gonna have some fun!
Are you going to run a locked 009 or other ignition? Electric fuel pump or stock pump? |

Whatever you do, ditch that distributor cap with the quickness. _________________ Build thread: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=212747

you can see some spark in the dark. i have a blue transparent one and i've noticed no difference. i keep the bosch in the car just in case. _________________ 1970 VW Beetle 1776cc MOFOCO w/hydraulic lifters, 042 heads and dual dellorto's

That's a good idea !
I have seen many burned, cracked, etc... stocks are way better.
RAAAID : nice build !
what are the engine specs? exhaust tubing size (15/8 ?) seems a bit to big for a 1600. |

X2, The only good use for one is to install it upside down on the workbench as an ashtray. _________________ 69 Meyers Manx II on 65 pan, 1 owner !

the headers are 1 5/8 and ya they are on the larger size but i intend on building something a little bigger down the road to use it on.the turbo is a ballbearing unit (as per performance shop and #)so it should hopefully spool up a little quicker to offset the larger exhaust.ignition is going to be a petronix set up in the dist. and an msd 6al btm that im trading a friend for(he needs a 6al). |

oh ya the fuel pump is a blue holley unit.i figure that since im going to build a bigger motor eventually id buy the better/bigger stuff once and restrict it ,rather than buy something that is border line usable or not good later on. |

i use old beat up pistons(usually from dropped valves, but only use the ones that didn't get ventilation hole put in them) for ashtrays.... easy to mount when you just push the pin almost out... slides over a nail easily. _________________

Funny, I used one for 50,000 miles on a baja bug. Rain, So Cal heat and whatever didn't touch it....
Amazing at how many people play follow the leader here...
Next, I'm sure you'll tell him to ditch his chrome doghouse...
What a joke...
Great job, RAAAID..... I'm sure it's going to be a nice motor. _________________ Herc |

If you use the transparent cap, you might have beat up old pistons to use as ashtrays. |

i bought a pretty clear blue cap back in the early 90's... sure was pretty and matched the bug nearly perfectly.... car never ran well with it and i removed it... it could still be in a box somewhere looking pretty....
(FTR, i have a couple sets of ashtrays, one set from an engine that dropped a valve and trashed the engine, another set from a rebuild.. the rest got tossed... i need to quit smoking and i can toss the wall of shame ashtrays too...) _________________

Beautiful!
What turbo is that? Looks like a Nissan T25 or T28?
I love my T25.
It's performed flawlessly on my 1600.
Yours makes mine look like junkyard fodder, though.
Go sane on the cam and you're gonna have a blast.
I'm using the stock VW with 1.25's with excellent results.
