I was changing the spark plugs and doing a few other things on my '87 Vanagon yesterday, and was getting ready to put the wires back on when I noticed that the ceramic portion of the plug was slightly loose, and not fitting tightly against the metal portion. I had to chose between using the old plug or seeing what would happen with the new, loose one. I put the new one in and drove it to see what happened. It seems alright, but I think I'll replace it anyway. I'm not sure if it was like this out of the box, or if it happened as I installed it. How long can I drive like this?
This is a Bosch Super Plus, WR7CC+, #7998.

That can happen when you're putting them in or taking them out.
If the long spark plug socket isn't seated right you can twist it and break the insulator, that is what the soft piece/thing in a spark plug socket is supposted to prevent or help prevent anyways.
You need to change it asap, it's broken. |
