It still needs to get broken in i only have like 300 miles on it but it will see dirt again i promise should be a blast in the dirt with the new power. I hope to make a run with you guys some day lol O and the other day i drained my gas tank and just put one gallon in it and drove it out of gas to get a good MPG test. Don't worry i had a couple off gallons inside my car to get me home haha and when i kept my foot out of it it pulled 18 MPG not to bad for a fully built motor _________________ My old Baja Bug thread

You actually drove your car out of gas to check the mileage.Who's bright idea was that? _________________ http://www.wix.com/baja5s/nightrun |

couldnt you just fill up your tank to the top, drive around for an hour while measuring the distance, then fill up and see how many gallons it takes to fill it up?
divide the miles by the gallons and there you go... mpg
18 doesnt sound too bad though.... |

I'll bet it's rich, you should be able to get to the high 20s pretty easily and it's not unheard of to get over 30 with that motor configuration. _________________ Chris

Time for the update.......
So... where to start haha I have put over 1500 miles on the new motor so far and its still running really strong and kickin butt Anyway Because of the power pulley i have on my new motor I was advised to invest money into a quality CHT (cylinder head temp) gauge. After some research I ended up going with the Dakota Digital unit. The gauge is top-notch quality and is very accurate but it was very pricey. It was worth it and I would advise one to every one with an air-cooled motor. Personally I think its the gauge that not very many people have but every one should have and any one that has one will probably agree with me on this one. I know no one likes to just read my lengthy posts so ill through in lots of pics for ya Here’s the final instillation of the gauge in my car.
Over all I am very happy with the product and would highly recommend it to every one. Next on the update was some interior work that I have done to clean it up a little.
I had some carpet in my Baja before but it got old and shaggy looking so I decided to put my Baja on the Herbie diet and tossed the old carpet out and spray painted the floor pans black. Looks pretty good in my opinion Here’s a couple of shots with the floor mats in and out, enjoy
Next up is some little motor dress up pieces that I made. One day when I was bored haha I cut up a Red-Bull can to make a coil cover out of it and I also made a cover for my oil filter too but out of a monster can haha =) I also put some red outer-ware filters on it that match the car. I’m very surprised about how many complements i get on them people go... Wow that’s sick... haha Heres a pic for ya...
Next up is what most of you have probably been waiting for......... The maiden voyage of my little street car OFF ROAD!!! For the first time with my new 1915 I took my car up to Alpine on some of the trails up there and it was a blast for the most part........ Had some problems with my carbs I think it was the float bowls over filling and bogging up I just need to adjust the floats that’s all but I also had some major breakage for the first time.... haha As the story go's haha..... I was just cursing back on my way off the trails because it was starting to get dark and all of a sudden WAM!!!! my car fly’s over to the right side of the trail the steering wheel was ripped from my hands as i was doing about 50 my vision is blurred and I here some horrendous noise and my car does a 360 spin in the dirt!!!! By this time I have already soiled my pants from shock and I’m thanking god that I’m still alive!!! Definitely the closest I have been from dieing........
Ok..... not really haha but I was just trying to make my post entertaining haha Parts of the story where true just not the cool parts haha.Well.... in short I broke a lower ball joint So.... The trip was a lot of fun over all but was more fun driving the car off the trails at night for about 5 miles or so going less then 5 miles per hour yeaaaaa not to much fun haha I had my buddy come pick me up with his flat bed trailer to tow my car home from me. Anyway here is some pics from my trip!!!
The Baja before breakage haha
Heres one of the trails that I was cursing down. Alot narrower and tighter then it looks in the pictures.
Beautiful scenery up in alpine
Another beautiful shot
A "bugs" perspective!! haha
And the break down sight....
Broken lower ball joint
Hope you enjoyed all the pics but that’s all about it for now. Sorry for the long read I hope all the pictures and the wild story made up for it lol until next time...

Hey Bajakid, I'd paint that car white.Seems Red bajas have a tendency to break balljoints. _________________ http://www.wix.com/baja5s/nightrun |

On how old they where i have no idea?? But yes it was just totally random surprise it just happened it was so strange, i wasn't even really beating on it hard when it happened the road i was on was fairly smooth. One of the smoother sections actually it was completely random it was weird. I replaced all 4 ball joints with the good "German" ones that i got at fiber tech and dang those things are pricey.... I decided to replace all 4 just to be on the safe side because i figured if one went there all about to go haha It was my first time ever changing out any ball joint so it was a learning experience and it took awhile Then after i got it all back on four wheels again i had my first experience with aliment and that was a lot of fun and it took me a few weeks to finally get it dialed back in. But now i have the Baja back on the road again running great so its all good _________________ My old Baja Bug thread
