Boy, well what a pickle!
I was putting the pistons and heads back together lastnight on my 1600dp and guess what happened.
One of the ring clips for the wrist pins flipped out of my pliers and bounced into the crank case....Rats!
I peered inside the case with a flashlight but cannot see it. A friend is loaning me nice engine rack that will rotate so hopefully I can get it to fall out.
Has this happened to anyone and what did you do? I do not want to have to pull the case apart to retrieve it. Any ideas?
Many thanks, Darin |

| red green/mcgyver approach: take off oil filter plate, and go fishing with a magnet duct taped to the end of a straightened coat hanger. |

BLJ your on a roll! but if you don't get it out, IF you have another clip, don't sweat it too much, it is VERY unlikely that it will get into the guts and do any damage, it will show up on the screen drainplate in an oil change or two, Unless you are drivind it on 2 wheels or something!
I have dug some amazing crap out of the bottom of peoples drain plates and screens and it did not interfere with the inner workings, BUT BY ALL MEANS, try and get it out beacause MURPHY"S LAW...... |

TAHDAHHH!
Got the little son of a....gun, Here's what happened. I got my friends stand and very slowly rotated the engine (had to turn the radio off) and heard the clip gently tumbling inside. It would not fall far but it was definitely moving. I managed to narrow it down to the sump so after some careful slow looking and turning, I spotted it. My flexible magnet was too wide. So I magnetized a rifle cleaning rod and Eureka, situation averted.
Thanks guys. |

I lost count.
Here's an idea, circular pieces of cardboard with a notch cut for the rod:) |
