My first thought was "I bet that's his Heb."

388 on the number plate could mean body number 14-0388. Heb 388 is not registered in the Heb registry. Infos about this car would be great!
Cheers

Anyone have any magazine coverage of that Bug-In? Was it in the show
or just there? Are there any other pics? Top down or interior shots?
With the ATJ on the plate in front of the 388, it just looks like a regular
number and not the Heb number.

If the owners initials were ATJ then it could possibly be Heb 388.

Can you see the door hinges clearly on the original photo? Does it have hinge covers on them or just regular hinges?

Mike

Very rare to have a custom Black/Yellow plate in that day.

Mike, I think you are close Shocked .
I am looking at the backwindow and think it is familiar... Wink
And it sure looks like it has hing covers like a Karmann but it is not clear.

Anybody knows more about it?
I will ask Yan Rami if it is in his album.

Best regards. Peter

That is a 1963 California plate. The vanity or personalized plates were not available until 1970 (blue plate) So the number has nothing to do with the car.

Nah, window in a Heb is too small for a gun rack....

As I recall, the Heb was owned by about a 30-35 year old hippie in 1974 who resided in North Hollywood, I do not remember his name.
The couple in front of the car were not the owners.

Do you recognize the car or know who owned it?

I might have photos of it or info in my archives . At the moment I’m the keeper of the Steve Woods photos and records it might also be in there in some of the hand written notes or photos will check later Ed (for that matter I don't even know the number of my old heb!)

That would place it at the Orange County International Raceway.

although not hollywood... there were two hebs in santa barbara in the 70's 80's... Steve Herron's... and Joe Crockett's. I didn't see them... I was busy skateboarding then and making fun of Ed Economy and Tom Sim's and those longboards. Wink

I think Steve Herron's car went to a 356 enthusiast in the Malibu mountains... I am not sure where Joe's went. I could be mistaken even about Steve's car.

what about Hollywood Ralph... did he ever have a heb?

I dealt with an early Porsche entusiast named Ed Bougher who lived in the Long Beach Balboa Island area in the '80s.Did he move to the Malibu area? Ed owned a 49 Heb at the time. I haven't seen him or heard from him since. If someone out there knows Ed , please ask him to contact me.

I can't remember the fellow's name I am referring to in Malibu... but it isn't Ed. He is a guy who is big in the car world... and works in Hollywood I think... not sure. Interesting fellow... big porsche enthusiast.... super modern house. He has an interesting sounding name... I just can't remember it.
