Okay, I found a couple of posts related to Lucas gear oil, but does anyone actually pour this stuff in their van?
The previous owner of mine used Redline, and I'd do the same, but I don't want to rely on something I can only mail-order. We have Autozone, Napa, and O'Reilly here.
Anyways, the bottle says it conforms to GL-5 specs (and not GL-4), and I try to hook my van up with the good stuff. So, if it's potentially harmful/second-rate, I'll go ahead and order the Redline.
Thanks,
James |

I put Lucas in the Transaxle of my 67' Beetle.... bad news. I tend to be OCD about fluid levels. About a week after I put it in, and daily driving I checked the level of it and as soon as I took the fill plug out, it just spooged all this foam out. Bad news cause foamed up oil doesn't lubricate your bearings... It took me 3 fill and flushes over the course of a week to get all the Lucas out. I used about half to 3/4 of a qt of Lucas mixed with the gear oil initially, so its not like I had too much of the Lucas in it. At any rate Lucas isn't going into any VW transaxle of mine ever. _________________ It's a Volkswagen Thing, Even I Don't Understand!(o\|/o)

Well, that's good to know. Maybe I'll go ahead and stock up on Redline. |
