|
|
Hi guys, I just picked up these 3 pressed pre-55 doors from Gotland Sweden, anyhow I am unsure of the years. I am aware that the could be either split, zwitter or early oval.
If any of you could identify the exact year match on the doors, I would be very greathfull.
I have to cut up some of the doors to repair a convertible door, would the lower part on any pre 55 door, fit a 51-52 split bug door?
Thanks for sharing.

thanks guys, that was my original thought too, however a freind told me that some splits have the door handle / window crank offset at different positions than zwitter / early ovals
Have you ever heard about this? |

Not a 100% sure about this, but my early oval came with these home-made doorpanels fitted. At first I could not understand why the door opener handle did not match the hole in the doorpanel. Only later I realized that these panels may have been on a split. So the handle on a split must be a few cm higher than an oval.

I have come across those ttype doors before, they seem to be oval doors, made to fit a split. But as UNDIS says, the inside opening door handle is placed low, like in ovals and you will not be able to use your original split door panels without cutting a new hole for the door handle or maybe modify the doors.
THIS is a correct split door:

The top and bottom doors were 'universal' doors that were sold by Volkswagen to replace all ribbed doors - Split and Oval.
My '51 has them fitted, which were genuine spare parts fitted in 1973 when the car was restored (I have the receipt). The window winder hole has been drilled out slightly higher to fit the original split winder mechanism. |
