How much can the 1.9l gas engine tow?

How much can the 1.9l gas engine tow?
also the diesel?

I pulled 1500 lb camper behind my 2.1 wasserbox for years. Never had a 1.9. I suspect the diesel had trouble pulling itself, much less a trailer. Remember, towing is only half the picture. Can you stop it?

I just towed a 1992 Passat 16V behind my 88 Carat 4 speed, oh, and a tow dolly. Not a problem. Unless you feel you need to run 75 with the big boys in their 2mpg gas hog SUV's....

My diesels are rather nutless. One has been fitted with the dual a/c units. Yup, not a speedster, but yup, still can tow, and one has, a 81 Caddy from Los Angeles to Portland Ore. (no it did NOT take two weeks) only one! Embarassed
