Emergency Flasher

Im, 15 and currently building a 69' bug for my first car
(momma said the fiberglass buggy 'wasnt safe')

so here we are i am throwing my father a million questions a minute,

answering left and right (he is a VW specialist in Texas)

and i finally ask the one stumper

on the emergency flasher knob... what does the '88' symbolize

i wasnt sure if it was like an international number or somthing but he suggested I come to his favorite site and inquire.

so, does anyone know?
