I am looking for a list or any tried and proven seats from donor cars. I do not like plastic seats, I have a pair with covers and my butt and back pay the price. I have a Spoiler by Desert Fox or Manx clone style buggy.
If anyone has ideas or a list to help it would be great. All I have found on the forum is miata, fiero, or porsche, but I want more selection if possible.
Thank in advance.

Take some measurements , go down to the local junk yard & start searching , sit in them and make up your mind . That's the great part of building your own buggy you can do what ever makes you happy. Everyone that posts is just saying what worked for them .
Mazda miata for me ..

Any old camaro/firebird seats will fit. You can use the VW seat brackets to the pan too.

These work, I have used them in my last 3 buggies:

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=393146

The yellow buggy was my first one and kind of helped get them into other buggies.

They come with the sliders and they mount pretty easily, you can remove part of the track feet to lower them. You can also cut out part of the frame and weld them up to make them even lower. I took out about 2" that allowed me to sit below standard height windshield.

If you need measurements let me know and I will get them for you.

I have Subaru WRX seats in my buggy, but it was a TIGHT squeeze to get them to fit, and had to weld on my own mounting brackets.

Although they aren't "donor" seats, I vote for Beard also.
I have quite a few of their seats and I love them all.
My favorite option is the removeable bottom cushion...

I used mid high front 4 door Ford Tempo seats. Cut the seat riser/adjuster brackets down, so they were nearly 1 inch off the floor. They still adjust, recline and tilt forward for rear access, and better yet they fit.

I just bought a used set of Porsche 914 seats for $65, cut the head rests off leaving a slight radius to match the seat top , they go out to get recovered tomorrow . Total investment will be $295 and they fit with room and height to spare using universal slider tracks in my Berrien project.

Purple, I have the same seats, although, mine have speakers in teh headrests, but, they need to be reupholstered. Are those just covers, or did you have a profesional reupholster them? If you don't mind me asking, what did it cost to redo the seats?

Also, how did you mount them to teh floor? Did you use something to hold them up off the floor a bit, or just mount them directly to the floor? I've been throwing aroudn a couple of ideas, but, I'd like to see what has worked for others in their buggies. It looks like your seats are at the perfect hieght off the floor.

Thanks!
Steve X.

the seats in the buggy are fiero seats without speakers. they fit very nice.

i had a profesional reupholster the whole buggy. i made the back stereo with the trunk myself. i took the buggy to a shop that reupholstered everything. the interior is all custom. i don't have a 1pc. rug that covers the floor. it's all made in panels.

just to give you an idea of what i have:

what would be doors, from roll bar to bottom of windshield 1 panel. both sides.

from windsheild to front wall 1 panel. both sides.

front wall from left to right and top behind dashboard is 1 panel. everything is covered.

center tunnel only from front to back covered with rug. not glued just in case it has to come off to work on tunnel.

now comes the tricky part. the left and right floors are not covered with rugs. from the first 2 or 3" of the front seat to the front wall are custom panels that are covered with rug (this is done on both sides). when all the rest of the parts are in the car you put the floor panel in and the first 2 or 3" of the seat slides in to the panel. by doing this i don't have to bolt my seats down. the tracks are laying on the floor as normal.

if i have to work on the inside of the car i just take the seat and panel out on what ever side i need to work on. i don't have to take the whole interior out.

if i have to work with the brake, gas, clutch & cables i just remove the driver seat & 1 panel. thats it, i see all of that with out removing the other side. taking 1 panel & 1 seat out takes me less then 30sec.

because i ran all the stereo wire on the right side of the car (pass side) if i need to get to them, again i just remove pass seat & 1 panel.

this set up is made so you can work on the car in very little time. it would take me a long time just to take 1 front seat out if i had them bolted to the floor. now i can take out both seats & 2 floor panels with in 1 min.

from the left side of the roll bar to the right side i ran a board that makes up my trunk. the trunk is also rugged. the back stereo that hold 4- 6x9" was also done.

all in all i have about 9 boards and the stereo box & 2 seats all done at the same time. it was done in a 3 tone color. black, grey & dark grey.

price was $1,700 + all the stuff used to make the trunk & stereo box (which i did).

if i add everything up interior work, switches, tach & steering wheel i have spent over $2,000 not including the stereo with is another $1,700 (and i did it myself). the total price just in my interior & stereo is about $3,700.

if you need more info give me a call i'll be more then happy to help you. i'm computer duummm and i type with 2 finger and it takes me forever for me to type something like this.

thanks, Freddie
