Going to be reassembling my case and need to know what the best sealant to use on the case mating surfaces. Many thanks in advance.

I've heard good things about Curil K2 sealing very well between machined surfaces. I haven't used it myself, as I still have half a tube of Curil T left, which has been sealing all my case halves quite well.

I use the black Permatex (not silicone) as it meets the specs as approved for aviation use by the FAA for VW powered aircraft engines. I am not sure what the product number is. You can pick it up at Napa. Comes in a small plastic jar type container.

Although with "only" about 8 engines (near stock) under my belt, many on this Forum have waaay more experience than I do, and have had opportunities to test many of the sealants out there, on all of the past 7 engines I built I used Permatex 3H on the case halves and always had a leak, minor to major. On my last engine that I just finished 2 weeks ago, I used Hylomar and there is NO LEAK! OK, so the engine has only a few heat/cool highway trip cycles and about 700 miles on it, but that experience sealed up my choice. Rolling Eyes

Actually my last engine did leak at the case and I used Permatex. It happened at around 73,000 miles miles though. Leaked so bad that I lost oil pressure enough at the #1 main to seize it.......................

.............................. Wink case cracked behind #3

Sorry, NEVER had a case leak at the seam, but then I have them all shuffle pinned too.
