When I took out my engine last week for some major maintenance, I found the pilot bearing to be in terrible shape. I ordered one from GoWesty's automated parts site (they sent me a package of 10.)

I am looking at the fitment, and it doesn't seem to be quite right, with the hole for the pilot bearing is smaller than I would think usual.

Is this a chunk of wood and hammer situation?

Also, is there any source for the metal retainer for the flywheel felt ring?

Thanks y'all.

It's a tight fit, but they go in nicely with, yes, a piece of wood and hammer.

Is there a stop on the crank, or just sink it past the lip?

If the shell of the old pilot bearing is still in the crankshaft you will not be able to fit the new bearing.

If you go with a Diesel pilot bearing you do not need the felt and retainer, but you will have to have the flywheel counter bored about 1/8 deep to get clearance for the longer bearing.

This pilot bearing was chewed up, I'll be checking the input shaft, oil slinger and input shaft seal. I'm wondering if anybody has a picture of the crank end, without flywheel or pilot bearing so I can tell if there is a shell I need to grind out. It is hard to tell at this point. Cheers for all the help.
