In my 87, that light blinks for a few seconds upon start up, which I am told it is supposed to do.
Before, when I had an engine with massive coolant leak, that light would blink constantly, because the level was low. I believe there is a switch in the coolant reservoir that makes the light blink when the level is too low.
I'd start by checking the level in the coolant reservoir. _________________ <---Air Cooled Search & Rescue Team - STICKERS & T-shirts for sale!

this is a fairly common problem. i think the radiator needs to be bled. one of my old vanagons did that. i never worried about it. i would check to see that the antifreeze is phosphate free. if youre not sure, drain it and get the right stuff in there otherwise you'll have a "headsagone" i your driveway. _________________ Extravagant Lifestyle

I had a similar problem on an 87. The wire assembly connected to the back of the speedometer housing was loose. First, be sure you are not low on water. Then check or replace the sending unit in coolent tank. If that is good, look at back of dash.
Good luck. |
