I was wondering if anyone knows of any companys out there who are re-popping bumper guards or anyone out there with a set laying around that I could pick up for a decent price. I've heard they are re-popping them but I can't remember who it is. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Bumper guards for what? And for what year? I've got some extras but they won't fit either an early Bay bus or a late Bay either.

I want the bumper guards for my 1970 Deluxe Baywindow. Sorry I didn't state that in my post, I guess I just assumed since I posted in the Baywindow forum you would know what I was looking for

I have an extra pair laying around... but wouldn't sell them for less than $35 each. That's what I paid for them...

They do pop up in classifieds occassionally, but not for cheap...

This is the outfit that is reproducing the early bumper guards:

http://www.eisparts.com/

They have been bringing a lot of interesting reproduction parts out. I did buy the early bumper guard rubber pads and they do not fit very well. The reproduction rubber pads are molded flat and the original VW ones were molded with a curve to them so they lay flat on the bumper guard.

No picture, and it doesn't list the rubber parts seperately, but it looks like they sell repros of them at west coast metric:

You need to realize that baywindow buses have 2 varieties of bumpers (68-72 & 73-79).

I'm thinking this is what I want, no pic again.
If it is what I think, from here it is probably Brazillian, which is worlds better than the offshore garbage at cip:

http://busdepot.com/details.jsp?partnumber=VA21001

I got a set of 4 authentic ones at interstate vw. The early round bumper kind are rare, it seems. $25 apiece, and I got to help take them off. The rubber is all cracked and 1 I got to straighten out with a vise, hammer and dolly. These things are awesome though. Think of all the money I'll save on front turn signal lenses with the way people park here.

Any source for these for the late bays 73-79? If not repop, any source for individual parts like mounting brackets, rubber, etc..?

I don't know of any sources other than the classifieds here... I bought mine a couple at a time last year. Found one set advertised for specifically and the other from a bus that was being parted out. I have seen NOS replacement rubber listed in the past. My front set came with mounting brackets, rear set without. The rear bumper is far from perfect, so I eventually got tired of waiting for mounting brackets to pop up in the classifieds and bolted the guards directly to the bumper.

The only problem I have with the repro bumper gaurds (67-72) is that the after market ones do not conform to the overiders "cleanly". In other words they don't mat / lay against the overriders 100%. I tried to bend and form them but you really can't with the repro's.

If you can find a set of OG bumper gaurds thats what I would do and that's what I will do after my body work is done.

edit - WOW!!! this is a shocker. Finally someone is redoing the overiders for the 68 to 72 THANKGOD!

Why don't you just get the rubber and the metal from the same place from the link above? All you gotta do is put the rubber in yourself...

From what I have heard the short bumper guard's were made for the SC and DC so the tail gate could go down all the way.
