I managed to get hold of a Syro pop-top today. That will be perfect for my 74 since I have the Syro interrior but the cheaper version without the pop-top. I am waiting for it to get home now so I can start cutting it in.

Do you have any pictures of the interior of that pop top? |
Unfortunately no. It is not my bus and I only have two pictures of it. _________________ ----------(VW)----------

I just saw that Kieft n Klok seem to have a van up for sale that looks very similar to a Syro van. _________________ ----------(VW)----------

This is the bus i'm fixing up. Shes a 74 with the remains of a syro convertion, which may have looked like this
Is there anybody out there with a photo of this setup? The blueprints are very helpfully available online here http://picasaweb.google.com/mnibib/VWCamper# ( thankyou Morten Nielsen ) but I could really do with seeing a few photos so I can give the restoration a proper go . Current plan is to bodge up a close likeness for the minute to see how practical it is, although probably without the divisions above the engine bay. |

There are two books about VW campervan conversions, of which I am aware:

Hello.
I have the David Eccles book Nigel mentions open in front of me. Page 117 covers the Syro Kit Campers & Conversions.
Apparently the company was based near Darmstadt in Germany and was generaly known for camping equipment and conversions. The name comes from Sybille & Rolph Koch, the founders. They did not only do VW conversion, Ford and Mercedes being amongst the others. Their offerings were either available in kit form or as new conversions. There were quite a lot of choices in interior because of this kit approach.
One thing they did make that was uber cool was a massive roof tent. That thing extends 5 feet either side of the bus. Amazing.
Good book by the way.

This weekend another Syro interior bus surfaced at the Swedish Bussfest. This one had a high top.

i kinda like those Syro just enough room to stand up between seats, and some more air flow while camping. It kinda looks like the cut out for a sun roof. _________________ daily- 71 baywindow
