Saw a great looking round headlight Westy at Point Beach State Park, WI this weekend, with great tires/rims, a really sharp blue paint job that included the pop-top, and a mean looking tube-style front bumper with fog lights. I think it was in campsite 62 (last one on the left, anyway, nearest the beach). Didn't see anybody around it, and it left earlier than we did on Sunday.

Nice ride!

Saw two Westies this weekend in Southern Colorado near Antonito along the Conejous river. One was a pre-85 gold Vanagon, the other was a blue Eurovan, again both Westies.

Just saw one at the store (1989; blue pass. van) & another at the gas station (1988; gray metallic pass. van)!

Who are these people?

Went to Elysian Fields Blue Grass Festival in Boyce VA. Ran into a nice guy with a 73 Bay High Top.

As we were discussing possible sources for used parts in our area, a light tan Vanagon Westy started pulling into the camping field. Not sure what scared him off, but the next thing I saw was his tail lights leaving. He had already been through the gate and paid his entry fee, so it must have been important.

Was hoping to chat with the guy once he was set up... bummer.

I know, I know - my point is that I WANT to know who they are...

Most often I'm not in MY van when I see another van, so if I go all kooky, waving and peace signs, I become the only one at the party and they try to drive away as quickly as possible.
I had to go 3000 miles for the last time I got to wave at another van driving on the road. <sigh>

Sincerely,
-Lonely Van in MN-

Have you ever noticed that hardly ever is there a response like 'oh hey that was me' on this thread. Is it save to assume that we are a very small minority of the vanagon owners.

Yeah - I've often wondered that. Still, a nice place to kill a little time...

I once meet a guy on a trip with a vanagon similar to mine, we chat a bit, he's a member of the Samba. After the trip I posted a picture of both vanagon (his and mine) in here. Never hear from again...

I think people want to stay anonymous....

Safer that way?

ok if that be the case then why bother showing a picture(s) of their van? Doesn't quite compute. Oh well People Are Funny. Someone said that a very long time ago.

Yup, definitely.

It's a big world out there and no matter how good of a person you may be, really strange things can happen in one's life. Trust me on this one.

The web has a very long memory that can't be erased. There may be times where you don't want someone who may not have your best interests at heart being able to connect the various parts of your life via a simple google search.

At the VW shop where SB is, I dropped in today to give them some parts. A really nice looking cream colored 1979 Air Cooled Westfalia in good condition. Very roundish appearance compared to newer models, inside well taken care of, clean, jalousie windows, original bumpers (I like them better than the next generation ones) and sorry guys but it had the cutest eyebrows. I laughed so hard. Really a character piece. Was getting an oil change but I didn't know how many miles on it. Not a daily driver.

So my original referrals to this shop were absolutely true. What a nice clean big shop. Think 6 lifts, nice office and waiting room. Rates less than most places I've seen also. Lots of places don't post their rates (I think in Ontario they are required to tho). I could have stood there forever and looked at the beauty.

Today in a residential area near my home saw a dark burgundy Eurovan with a different looking pop top. Almost missed it due to longer nose. Looked in good condition.

Saw one a nice looking maroon Westy on Germantown Avenue in the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia about 11:30 today. This is the first Westy I've seen on the road since we got ours in April 2009! So if this is you or you know who it is, send me a PM to compare notes.

Parked in my old work neighborhood (which is also where stclair411 lives) to do some anniversary shopping and later returned home. A few minutes later comes a knock at the door and he introduced himself and his new-to-him Syncro Westy. Nice machine, and nice to meet another Sambanista. I had unknowingly parked right in front of his house while his van was parked out back and he chased me down after he spotted me driving away.
