I was looking through one of my all time favorite books during "family reading time" last night found this photo.

nothing special but I thought neat enought to share. Vanagon "holdin it down" in support of the Audi rally team circa 1985. Love it.

The book is called simply "Rally Cars" by Reinhard Klein. IMHO it simply is the best book about world rally and it's history, bar none. Amazing photos, evolution of rally cars, etc....

Just for fun on Fri 13th.

Awesome! I'm a rally crew chief myself. I'd love to see what those vans really look like, how they stuffed all of the service items in there. Nice find!

I have that book as well as "Rally" by Klein and many other books and videos. I'm a Group B fanatic, having been 16 years old in 1986. I will have to get the book out tonight. Thanks for posting this!

Didn't the LT's have signals above the lights?

Cool photo taigagreen, must be 87 or so, a 200? yes? I just love all the old liveries, factory team colors, etc.

not to mention the Syncro in attendence.

LT rally support rig? Yes please, I'll have one. Please be sure it is stocked up.

I love this thread! I am a syncro/quattro super fan. I drive Syncro Vanagon and A4 quattro with 3.2L. The fact that these teams worked together as a tight knit family then shortly after dominated the WRC and killed the rest! Changed auto history. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b1PumvIY4RY Thanks VW/ Audi Cool

Well, Audi dominated WRC when the quattro first arrived until 1985, at which time Peugeot showed up with the 205 T16 and decimated the field in '85 and '86. Lancia looked to be on their way to winning with the Delta S4 (Satan's own rally car) in '86 until the Toivonen/Cresto tragedy happened.

Aside from the tragedies of the time, this was the peak of rallying for me. The cars have never been as interesting since.

Nice video, Jedi! Since rally, of course, Audi got thrown out of GTO, Trans Am, and BTCC due to the quattro system kicking serious butt.

I think the Rally Super would look quite good behind an orange and black LT...

I stand corrected on the Vanagon/LT mix up, as has been pointed out, the LT's do indeed have indicators above the headlights. Looking at the pic a bit more I think the odd lines and stretched feel that the van in question has to it is because of the camera lens used.

I'm going to support that the first picture IS a Vanagon/T3/T25. There is not a signal light above the "round" head light and I can make out a signal light on the lower right corner. The other pictures are of LT and a killer roof rack though. I'll move back into my mothers basement now Wink
