| maybe someone can help me. I have a 1959 Ghia, but looking at my vin, I think it is a 1958. My title says 1959, vin is 2206XX, looks to be a late 1958, could they have titled it as a 1959, it is an original car, I also noticed it has a 1958 style steering wheel. |

| Hello again, my engine number is 26870XX, It looks to me, hat the engine is a '58 number, and the Vin is a '58 number. Late year, December build. Does anyone have an opinion, I see conflicting information on websites, as to the year of the VIN dates. |

Up to 01 Jan 1955 model year change was at turn of the year. 01 Aug 1955 and later model year change was after end of July.
Hover your mouse cursor over the "Technical" button at upper right. Left click on "VIN Numbers" that pops up in the list there. Select "Type 1" and enjoy. _________________ In Stereo, Where Available! |

The car in question, by its chassis number, was built in the last two weeks of 1958. It would have had the steering wheel with the press-on grey plastic trim "shield" as opposed to the grey metal screw-on shield. _________________ David Ruby

| So, with the vin I provided, and the vin being in the last production weeks in december, would it be considered a 1958 or a 1959. Is it considered a Low Light, or not, the other post seem to be confusing, and no one really addressed my question unless I missed it. |

you are opening a can of worms....there are two sides of this camp....those who will argue "model year", and those who will argue "production year".
for your case I would call your ghia a 1959 ghia as I bet it has all the characteristics of a 1959 "model year" ghia....
I sent a PM and invited you to call or come by the shop (in Salem).....ghia parts and projects galore and I would love to help with any questions you might have. _________________ House of Ghia, since 1980

O no!! Mike, what are you doing?
When in your opinion did the 1959 "model year" start??????
July 1958, with the introduction of the plastic horn botton?
Beginning of oktober 1958 when they stated when the new front turn signal lights?
Beginning of december 1958 when the dashboard changed?
Half of januari 1959 when the sun visors changed?
End of januari 1959 when the dash pad was introduced?
Half of may 1959 when the new doorglass was introduced?
No, there is not such thing as a "1959 model"
That's why I list all the cars in my lowlight registry on the year of build. Build on 31 dec 1958 means you have a 1958 car!
Regards

Car is now on Ebay and listed as a 1958 build car.

Interesting car. Certainly some flaws, and certainly lots of filler on it, but for its age it is really solid looking.
I wonder what they did to the ash tray though. It looks like it got driven over and re-installed. Also, the overspray is wild, how did they get it on the axle tubes and trans carrier?
And Paul, whoever you are... seriously???

Q: Hi, I'm in Portland, would like to come down and look at the car in person. Does Weds evening work for you? Thanks Jan-04-11
A: Hi, just wanted to let you know that I sold it today. Thanks for your interest, it is heading off to California.
Did anyone from The Samba buy it? _________________ Quintin - IG @GFK602 |
