Makes sense. I know if I couldn't sell some vintage VW parts on The Samba, Baltimore Craigslist would be my logical next step. Everybody knows that Craigslist, specifically Baltimore Craigslist, is THE source for vintage VW cars and parts. _________________

Pretty funny to watch basic economics in motion - when the price is right, it will sell. The price isn't right. _________________ Even my nuts are plated.....

He'll get tired of looking at it someday.... If I found a terd that came from King Tut, I know it would be rare. The question is how much would it be worth to someone. That's the $15,000 question _________________ Even my nuts are plated.....

all of the pictures show it sitting outside. I hope at least it is being stored indoors. It would be a shame to see such a well preserved chassis rot away while the seller comes down to a realistic price. _________________ Chris

Excuse an ignorant Aussie, but what's so special about Baltimore Craigslist over anywhere else?

You have to consider how many people that thing is valuable to. It's probably very valuable to anyone building a coachbuilt replica, but how many of those are there total? Maybe a dozen in various stages of completion worldwide? And to anyone building a volksrod who wants BRAGGING RIGHTS to a 1949 title in the glovebox, for the specific purpose of pissing off the trolls at the HAMB. How much are bragging rights worth? Maybe 8K, tops _________________ Check my classifieds for kewl gauges:

I'm so disappointed with the way this find was handled, that, I'm ready to buy that chassis just so I can ask the moderator to lock this thread. |

All this complaining about not cutting it up or parting it out. Has anyone made an offer yet?
I talked to the own the other day. He is interested in selling but don't want to give it away. |

I keep thinking about it. I know of a split that needs that engine.... of course then I'd have to get the split too.... _________________ John Henry

He needs to get more realistic on the price. Then it will sell. _________________ Chris

Actually I don't think the price is too far off. The bigger question IMO is who would buy it? 1) someone that needs a '49 pan (and therefore would probably not need the engine) 2) someone who needs the '46 engine (and probably would not need the chassis) or 3) someone that just likes to have cool old stuff and has a bunch of money to blow on it.
Personally, I think since the potential buyer pool for the engine and chassis individually is so small, the seller would be better served to split them and sell them separately. _________________ John Henry

I'm more than sure if the own would get an offer on just the chassis minus the engine and/or for the engine minus the chassis he would go for it if the offer was in reason! |
