OK, as you know, the little spring things that hold the adjustmant stars from turning on the brakes can (and do) break off. Has anyone come up with a substitute for these to keep the adjustment stars from turning? I'm open to any ideas that anyone might have.

Thanks.

Drum brakes. All standard. I haven't had a Beetle yet that at least one of those wasn't broken (or too loose to do any good). Two on each wheel, of course. They are welded onto the bottom block that the star adjusters go into.

You could try Blue Loctite on the star adjusters.
It will hold them from turning, but will "shear" off when you use a tool to readjust them. Just be aware that you will need to dissassemble and clean the stuff off every now and then.
The Green and Red Loctite will hold stronger, but you will need a torch to heat the metal to get the adjuster loose.

just remove some clips from a used backing plate and tack weld them onto your plate on the car, or if you've got time or you are doing a brake job anyway just swap the backing plate... I have a bunch of good used backing plates, mostly for later model rear and fronts for both super and regular if your having trouble locating some locally.
