I'm sure some handy individual has already figured this one out, but I thought I would share anyway.
I recently picked up a copy of the Bentley manual in PDF format and added that to the hard-drive of my computer (iMac). I initially tried e-mailing it to myself, but the file is too large. I also tried moving the file to the phone while connected to the computer with no luck.
With the iPhone (I'm sure there's something for the other smart phones as well), I downloaded the free app called USB Disk. It allows you to drag and drop large PDF files from your computer to your phone through iTunes. Then click the sync button and it's done. The Bentley is now contained in the USB Disk app on the phone, and I just learned you can quickly and easily transfer it to the iBooks library. It's a very handy quick reference and easy to keep a copy of the manual in my shirt pocket!
Here's a screenshot of the front cover - or page 1 of 1381:

I have been using GoodReader for a year or so as a Bentley PDF viewer. It's far from a great app. Will have try this USB Disk. Thanks for the heads up. _________________ “May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. If anyone uses Carbonite to backup their home computers, they have an iPhone app which allows you to open any file saved on your pc on your Phone. Photos, documents, music, etc. You'd have to be in cell range to use it on the road. Pretty handy though. _________________ 89 Syncro Westy - GW 2.5, now with a double knob job

No iPhone here but I do have it on my iPad. I use iBooks to open the PDF but at that many pages it's not exactly quick to read through. Does work ok though. I keep mine on Dropbox as well that way I can access it on any computer. That route seems to be a little quicker to as well. |

I am using GoodReader on an iPad with great success. I have not attempted to put anything on my iPhone just due to screen size.
Where did you find a pdf copy of the Bentley?

A friend loaned me his disk when I said I'd like a digital copy. I'll have to ask him where he purchased it. Perhaps the others with Bentley PDF files could let us know where to find it. I haven't looked, but perhaps the Bentley publishers website? IIRC, I think there was a site where you could download it online a while back. _________________ '85 Westy |

It is on the Bentley site. You need to purchase a license to open it. That will cost you $110.00.
There are also a number of file sharing sites that have it. Illegal of course. By the time you get the viruses removed after the download, it might be a little less than $110. heehee.

so even if you already own the hardcopy you have to pay a second time for the licensing to have a digital copy _________________ 58' pg/sg silo fridge westy

I got mine via a bit torrent site. Since I already own a hard copy and I'm not selling it, I fell there is nothing shady about it. If you don't have a hard copy, then it's stealing. _________________ “May your trails be crooked, winding, lonesome, dangerous, leading to the most amazing view. Just to be sure everyone understands, if you obtain an electronic copy of the Bentley any way except for buying it you are breaking the law. Whether you have bought zero, one or 100 hard copies doesn't matter you are still breaking the law. I am not stating my personal opinion on the morality of the issue just stating facts.
We all have the right to our own opinons, but we do not have the right to our own facts. _________________ Rowan

I have had a Bentley for almost 20 years, and wished I could download one based on that purchase. Since I can't, I found one a while ago and don't feel too bad about the download since they are currently giving them away with the book.
Even though it's searchable, it does appear to be hand-scanned, and a little sloppy.
I prefer the book, but it's nice to be able to pull up a few pages at work so I can figure something out. _________________ '69 Mike

Bentley sells the disc with PDF format.
I have converted the EKTA to PDF as well.
Both are viewable on my Blackberry Storm2, Tablet and Ipad2.
I am not interested in selling or sharing any of this as the files are extremely large and it is illegal to do so.
Just letting everyone know it is very possible, just time consuming. |
