Stopped at Chautauqua Park on the way in to work a few days ago to spend a few minutes sharing a cup of coffee and chatting with my daughter, while watching the moon setting over the Flatirons

Bought a low mileage 65 beetle in San Francisco . Car was at the back of a double garage and the brakes were locked up on the rears. I drug it outside with a strap and hooked the tow bar to Tristar and tugged it home. The first stop to put air in the tires, had the rear wheels so tight you could almost not touch them.
The truck was struggling and getting a little hot for the first 10 miles or so and then you could feel it loosening up as you drove.
Any way I like to use my vehicles for their intended purpose and I just didn't think it would have been right to use my Toyota to do this job any way.

Drove to the furniture store to pick up our new queen size bed frame. Man, love the cargo haul-ability of these vans.

I was invited by a 911 buddy to join the Denver Porsche Breakfast Club/Classic British Car Club on a trip up to Longmont to view the private and very fun Tebo collection of classic cars. They have John Lennon's Rolls Limo...

Yes, it felt strange to have my Vanagon floored on I-25 with two GT3's and a Lotus in front of me and a 944 turbo, two 928's, and a bunch of 911's behind me, but a couple of the Porsche guys seemed mildly impressed that I could get a Vanagon to go 90.

I wanted to park on the front row, but I lost my nerve.

Romper and Smudge,

You may want to post this in the "What I did TO my Vanagon/Westy today" thread. Just so people can search that thread for help/advice on your topics.

Like the work, by the way.

Ooophs -- point taken!

So actually, I drove her out of the garage for the first time this year. The snow finally melted a bit so I installed some new bumpers outside in the driveway.

I drove to race my bicycle. About 40 miles to the town of Maupin, Oregon on the Deschutes river. Parked next to a couple of guys who arrived in a Honda Element. They were casting envious glances at my old '84 van with a low top but a westie kitchen. They were quite happy to accept a seat inside out of the wind after the last long cold hillclimb of the day. And to be served hot tea, with a little soy milk out of my fridge, etc etc. My designated "Bicycle trip vehicle" with everything I need kept inside..

That Honda...while real expensive and "trendy" it kinda came up a bit short of the Vanagon. They had to carry their bikes outside on a rack where they were exposed to the rain, dress while wrapped in towels, sit in crummy Wal-Mart folding chairs out in the cold wind, etc.

I probably could have traded them vehicles, but why would I?

Had a long weekend for Easter and decided to return to campground I discovered late in the season last fall, Van Hook Glade in the NC mtns just outside of Highlands on the way to Franklin
http://www.reserveamerica.com/jsp/commonpage.jsp?goto=/nrrs/nc/vanh/newindex.html
Nice small campground, 20 sites maybe and new building with 2 bathrooms and 2 showers (hot and free). No elec but lots of new fresh water all thru the place
It's a beautiful little place, two very nice waterfalls (BridleVail you can pack behind and Dry Falls you walk behind) just down the road and a road next to the campground goes up to a fishing/swimming only lake. Lots of nice hiking trails near by too
The best site is one you can't reserve online - #16. It's off a little side loop and it's own little road to it so the back of your site is towards the rest of the campground
(in the pic, the rest of the campground is behind and below the back of the van... and the pic only shows maybe 1/2 of Site 16)
Got there on Thurs and had the place to myself. Fri a copy of more campers showed up but they were on the other side the place. Sat one more camper showed, was on my side, but on an tent only site up near the restrooms.
If you're in the western MC mtns, I recommend it highly

I have been camped at the Horsethief Campground, just up the road from the Syncro Solstice site, for two nights. There is a beautiful dark red '90 Westy belonging to Dale and Joni from Bellingham, Wa, parked in the campsite right next to me (their van only has 71k on it). I packed up and drove into Moab where I gassed up and saw a green Vanagon from Coyote Shuttles. Then I drove on Highway 128 up the Colorado River.

I drove past another white Westy that was camped along the river and stopped to talk to the 4 or 5 young women who were with it. They were just starting out on a bike ride. The owner of the '85 said that her husband was a Samba member.

I then headed east, up the river to I-70 and drove over to visit friends at their place in Grand Junction. Tomorrow I will head back west to the San Rafael Swell for another couple days of Mt. Biking.

Went to a group appraisal event at Manchester State Park. Figured out and used the Catalina awning for the first time. Slept warmly among the trees.

Used my Vanagon to pick up 200' of 5' fence & 40 7' poles --to replace the 15 year old rusty 4' fence that WOULD NOT keep our 3 year old German Shephard in.........

This weekend I was helping my new bride move all of her stuff to my place. No bed in the apartment? No Problem, we just camped out in the driveway plugged into shore power for some evening entertainment.
The next day I was able to fit almost everything from her 1 bedroom apartment into the van.
Duel use, Hotel for the night, Moving van during the sunny hours! Cool

Found it finally on page 39. I took Scooby out on a deliberate route excursion today. It did extremely well. #403 a long gentle grade up the Niagara Escarpment. Most all size trucks drop a gear or two and go up at a hare's pace with lights flashing. Scooby did well in 4th with still more power under my foot.

Leaving Tues or Wed for Bloomsburg, Pa and looking forward to some hills. I have to say that today's trip was a rare experience in my 50 years of driving. Did entire trip in right hand lane and only went into middle lane to pass. Scooby most comfortable 97 to 102 kmph. Cool In my car I tend to do 110 to 120. But priority is adjusting to Scooby's preferences and needs Wink

16 ft raft - longer and wider than the Vanagoon

and then the 11 people (and one dog) who came down in the raft and the one kayaker and his kayak went back up inside the Westy.
