Built a body cradle so we can roll it around in the shop and get under it.

Ouch, discovered rust on the lower passenger side bottom plate. Wolfburg West has these for sale, $24.00, can anyone help with pictures or description of the best way to tackle replacement?

It appears that this car had a front end accident at some point in its journey. It looks like the inner fender may be pushed back. What do you think?

Started removal of the RH lower plate. I cut the spot welds using a chisel. This method did not work due to the spot welds being very hard and the metal being a very thin gauge. I then tried to drill the spot welds, they were so hard it was almost impossible to drill them.

I exposed the spots welds and attempted to drill them out. After two drill bits I decided this was not the way to do it.

How not to repair the lower plate, the PO had used bondo and screen wire. Most of the middle portion of the plate was gone! Nothing but filler and screen wire.

Decided the best way to remove the RH lower plate was to cut inside the heater channel using a right angle grinder. Once most of the plate is removed the remaining can be removed using the grinder. This method worked very well!

RH heater channel with RH Plate removed. It is in very good condition with the rust being confined to the bottom plate.

Note! When using this method be very careful where the heater channel exits at the front floor vent. Do not cut very deep or you will grind into the heater channel.

Finally got going again, boy it is hot in Texas, hard to get motivated with 100 plus temps. Primed heater channel with Rust-Oleum rusty metal primer.
