OK bought the pole I'm sure it will fit when it arrives. Yes on the parts purchasing. If I didn't buy parts while working on the project I would be that much farther to complete. In some ways it is exciting to track down the needed part to this type of a project. Although sometime I wish I bought a finished complete bus. So far I'm OK with tracking down parts.

Hope that helps with your purchase Linda, you may look into having the longer pole reprocuced by someone local from thick gauge tubing.

You should place a wanted ad for the cot pole that you need and whatever else. The wanted ads really do work, at least for me it did. Just an idea.

My child's cot bag arrived today, the manufacturer is Joe Comfort who also made the cot. I received the short pole in the mail a few months ago from crukab - [email protected] which was also a great deal. Now all I need is the long pole (anyone have one for sale?) and Joe is also making the leather strap but I thought I read the 67 didn't come with a leather strap although I am so pleased with both Joe's work and the idea of a strap I'll order one also. Raining today so work is minimal it the tight quarters of my packed garage. I ordered the interior paneling from Clara looking forward to that as I am so impressed with her work. So it looks like I'm back to grading engineering design technical reports, senior grades due this Wednesday unless it stops raining Cool

Feeling at home in her cab.

Great guy he actually send out the og material and had the new fabric made from it. It is as close to og as anyone can get. I have actually warn the material (as a shirt) from the guy in Japan and it was a bit stiff, and pricey @ $700. a set, this material is a closer match IMO. Cost conversion and shipping to NJ was $125.00 total.

Got all my fuel lines in although not sure I like my set up. It took a while to relocate the line and squeeze my arm and tools in to work, but now I know I can do it with my eyes closed. Glad I didn't get frustrated and give up Wink My post earlier gave me a bit of confidence. I like the longer line and the filter low away from the distributor but the duel port manifold is close to the line. I did find to my surprise that there was a small barb on the nipple inlet to the collaborator where normally that brass pipe is straight and requires a wire attached to the hose clamp then to the body of the collaborator to insure it doesn't pop out and cause a fire. I am assuming mine will not require that safety measure.

I got a lot done today and hope it doesn't rain tomorrow so I can fire her up. Although this weekend Hurricane Irene will hit the NYC area so I'm hunkering down.

Above diagram from the "Parts Manual" @

http://oacdp.org/5867part.html#f2

Lower left of the diagram, shows the metal fuel line going from front tin to the fuel pump.
There is also a bracket that is screwed to the left side of the shroud where the shroud is screwed to the left head tin. Bracket is required to keep metal line off the intake manifold wear it would get worn through.

Left click on the image should blow it up for you.

Man, your Bus is coming along nicely Linda! I bought that curtain material also, and it is a VERY nice reproduction! You gotta video that first start up for us all...

I got to NYC and flew for two weeks and suddenly got a transfer to DFW right away, so that is why I haven't gotten a hold of you for NY VW activity. That Governors Island event looked great! Did you get to go?

The metal line to the pump pictured in the parts list has a screw in fitting into the fuel pump.
Often you have a fuel pump that does not take the screw in fitting. use a short piece of fuel line to a metal line that goes forward. You can buy a new metal line from the usual parts suppliers, it has particular bends to it.

It goes past the collaborator onto the carburetor body itself to keep the brass collaborator from pulling out of the carburetor.

OK let me figure this out. The tank has a nipple for a hose and you are all saying it is to be a steel line like my non VW cars? I have a Super Beetle engine so am I supposed to cut the new hose nearest the tank and run the steel line from there to the pump and then use rubber to the pump?

Will I be OK to run it this way with just the rubber line for a while?

Getting some fuel as we speak it would be nice to fire her up before that nasty hurricane strikes the Jersey Shore Shocked

Which track does the solid glass go into? I decided to take Brian's advice especially being winter is just around the corner here in the NE and bought solid glass and gaskets to go with solid glass all around. I'll look for a place to send out the jalousies for polishing this winter being it took too long when i tried it myself. And install them another time.

Below is my youtube on the gaskets I just received and also need to know what size string to use to install. Is that 5/16?

They all are saying it is supposed to be flexible hose to within a couple inches of the FRONT tin of the engine where, at that point, it slips onto a metal line that goes all the way to the fuel pump.

Linda Grunthaner wrote:

They are saying no matter what engine you have that you should run rubber hose from the tank outlet to a metal line that begins about six inches IN FRONT of the FRONT tin. The metal line goes around and on the engine and ends at the fuel pump. At the pump, to be 100% correct for your '67, it should be a special connection but in your case a little rubber hose about three inches long will do to connect it to the pump.

Linda Grunthaner wrote:

Yes but don't let the hose chaff or touch hot metal.

Here is a full description of the fuel line from tank to fuel pump.

Outlet at tank is connected to short flexable fuel line a few inches long.

The above is connected to a metal fuel line about 12 inches long that goes from right to left side over the transaxle, and is held up to the underside of the bus by metal straps spot welded to the underside of the bus. Pieces of fuel line are split and act as kind of grommets on the fuel line to keep metal fuel line and metal straps from rubbing.

Above is connected to another flexable fuel line about 8 inches long that goes toward the front engine tin.

Above is connected to the metal fuel line that goes through the front tin and a grommet there, to the shroud where a metal bracket (with again a split piece of flexable fuel line to act as a grommet between bracket and metal fuel line) holds the metal fuel line on left side of the shroud. Then the metal fuel line goes back to the fuel pump and is either threaded (40 HP and early 1500 cc) into the fuel pump or another short flexable fuel line (later 1500 cc) that connects it to the fuel pump.

Really good idea to add a reserve switch to any post-1962 VW. So nice to be able to switch to reserve even by hand if you run low on fuel or when removing engine switch to "Off" position and not have fuel all over, especially nice when replacing flexable fuel line!!
