| 1971 oil bath stock aircleaner. I searched and couldn't find the answer I was looking for. I want to give the aircleaner a good cleaning and was thinking of having it powder coated. Will the heat from powder coating do any harm to the fiber in the top part of the cleaner. Jeff |

Check out this thread. I posted a pic of my 72 rehabed oil bath. It hasn't been engine tested yet, but I used a high quality paint (solvent resistant) from Eastwood. I don't know the answer to your question about powder coating the upper element. If you go that route definately send a picture. I want to see it when it's done.

the coir fibers in the upper part are natural fibers, and are flammable when exposed to high enough heat. they're also coated with light oil, or they are supposed to be if it was properly maintained (kerosene, mmo, or diesel) which is of course flammable. powder-coating ovens are typically 350 - 400 F and the flash point of these light oils falls within that range.
to summarize, maybe it will work and maybe it will burn. if it were mine, i would paint it.

| Thats the answer I wanted to hear. No need taking a chance on ruining a 40 yr old air cleaner. Paint it will be the way to go. Jeff |
