|
I have two from newer than 74..
0-120-403-893 / 021-903-023
0-120-400-719 / 021-903-023
will either of these work for a 74? _________________ Biervergnügen |

Well the manual sez 021-903-203 is what to use for 72 & up.
No mention of the 0-120-403-893/719 number(s) so no idea
what relevance they have. _________________ Biervergnügen |

021-903-023A was the alternator installed into the 72 bus.
021-903-023F was the last 55A version installed.
021-903-023 is Bosch 13030 which xrefs to these units:
0-120-400-615
0-120-400-660
0-120-400-661
0-120-400-671
0-120-400-672
0-120-400-719 <- a ha!
0-120-400-721
0-120-400-726
0-120-400-727
0-120-400-730
0-120-400-731
0-120-400-893 <- are you sure you got the number right?
0-120-400-894
0-120-400-895
0-120-400-896
These are the VW numbers that unit matches:
021-903-023
021-903-023A
021-903-023B
021-903-023F
022-903-023
022-903-023A
023-903-022
021-903-023E was the 70A version. I'm pretty sure the 55A alternator can be used form 72-79 although the 70A buses will have a different alternator harness plug:
The 70A version, Bosch 14062 matches:
0-120-450-001
0-120-450-002 _________________ '78 Westfalia CDN

Thanks Richard..
I didnt see this til now as I just crawled out from under DAS bus.
yeah the numbers are what is on the alt's.. I installed one of
them and it seems to have fixed the problem.. voltage/current ratings
were the same as what came out of the bus. Also the pesky noise
I have been trying to locate is gone. I didnt have to remove the
adjustment bracket.. and I unhooked the alt lead to the starter and pulled the slack back to the firewall.. this enabled me to get the old one out far enough
to pull the cover plate off and remove the harness from the back.. I did pull
the tin off the heat exchanger too... all in all time consuming but not
a technical job.
cold out there today!
Oh yeah I went to your site but didnt find this info up.. did I miss it? _________________ Biervergnügen |

I meant the plug on the alternator not the other end for the voltage regulator.
The plug inside the 55A alternator is straight and the 70A is bent. I think you can use the 55A harness on a 70A alternator but not the other way around. The 55A plug has no weather protection either. _________________ '78 Westfalia CDN
