Damn I'm getting tired, so close to having the big 36 done for WOS, tomorrow we need to change a couple things and it could be ready.
Getting Britts engine in tomorrow so he'll head out and get campo Havasu set up on the salt for us.
Anybody come by and visit and/or hang out, looking forward to my first salt outing actualy driving.
Look for the big Discount Tire canopy, that'll be us.

I`m excited just reading this and wish I could be there. Both of these busses kick ass although I think Matts bus has the advantage with that custom front spoiler hubcaps and sporty roof rack (may not be legal). I hope you guys have fun and take lots of pictures and videos so we can all see later. Good luck. _________________ My 59 panel plus 36hp valve covers http://s122.photobucket.com/albums/o265/faster50/59%20panel/ |

Quick, let me get out the rule book. Wait, no, this is the 36hp Challenge and there really isn't a rule book, just some fairness guidelines.
Go fas-s-s-s-t....................

We're packing it up, off and running at first light tomorrow. Looks like I'll be bringing my pit bike too.......it was easier to fix than I thought. Seemed like it had a carb problem, but it turned out the choke was stuck in the on position!

cool! I love the springer with drum brake. And the vintage Challenger decal. I had speed equipment decals all over my bike before I was old enough to drive. |

Getting ready to brake in the 1582, what a PITA, way to much weird stuff but got it all together. Hopefully it doesn't blow up before I even get it in the bus!
Also getting ready to take Britts big block ghia for a test run.
Faster, Britt has one of those vehicle mount video cameras's. I'm going to see if I can borrow it when I make one of my runs.
We're getting fired up but this LONG days are killing me and I'm sure the rest of the guys. There are 4 of us at the shop trying to get both VW's ready!
ps. Larry stop by the sjop today if you get a chance. We'll be here a while longer _________________ Stocking distributor of "The Funky Green Panels"

IT'S ALIVE and made it through it's break in . Tomorow to the dyno for some fine tuning and if it surrives that beating it's off to WOS to see if I can go 100 mph in a split window bus powered by a 36hp based engine! _________________ Stocking distributor of "The Funky Green Panels"

Well here's what happened.
I blew a hole through a piston on the big motor so ran the 1192 WW Okrassa
My best speed was 68.850, thats' all she would go and that was in 3rd gear!
Couldn't pull 4th as the trans was geared for the big motor, still not bad .
Mr. Motorhead was giving me a run for the money. We were with-in 1 mph of each other almost every run.
Just goes to show that a lowered bus and a RGB bus can compete against each other
The small engine ran great, shifted at 6500 rpm out of first, broke the rear tires loose when shifting into second my last run. Shift out of second at 6000 rpm's and could only pull 3rd to 5000.
Not bad for a stock bore and stroke 36hp engine with a small WEB cam, ported WW Okrassa heads with the WW carbs out of the box! _________________ Stocking distributor of "The Funky Green Panels"

Congrats to both Ronnie and Matthew on a 'great' 36hp Challenge effort. Ronnies speed is now the new base DSS Bus category record to break.
I will post the WOS record setting history for the week by mid-week. Thanx ALL for coming and competing....................

Hey Ronnie, it was great seeing you again, even better watching you and Matt Kinny going at it head-to-head trying to best each others MPH.
Sorry about your big engine coming apart... but I guess that's the life of a pioneer... sometimes they blaze a new trail for everyone to follow, other times they get arrows in their butts. I'm sure you guys will get it fixed soon. |

Well it's almost that time of year again and hopefully the big engine will hold together on the dyno so it can get in the truck. With almost twice the HP I hope to go a little faster (at least enough to get the 1000 bucks from WW!!!)
I would take this chance to thank all my sponsers from last year and sticking with me again for this years effort.
Engine almost done "again"

Much thanks to Rancho Performance Transaxle for the LAT break in oil, engine oil and gear oil. We'll see if it helps me go faster _________________ Stocking distributor of "The Funky Green Panels"

The big engine ( 124hp on Geoff Harts dyno) is as well as done now. The only thing we will be doing is putting it on the dyno again to see if SPEEDWELLS Sebring headers will help with the power, trying to see if we can squeeze a little more out of it. SPEEDWELL is sending me 2 different designs to test and the best of the 2 will stay on the engine for Bonneville.
I also built a new beam for the bus to get the front down a couple inches as I am running going to try smaller rear tires instead of regearing the existing trans.
So the 1582 will go in next week, the 1192 comes out fro some chages and freshing up and I'll be ready to rock.
The Vee car will have to wait till next year, maybe rebodied with a drop tank (lakester).
I'd also like to thank LAT Lubricants for supplying my engine and gear oils, PAC valve springs, Ferrea valves for their support on this years effort along with the support from the all of my last years sponsors , without their help this wouldn't be happening. _________________ Stocking distributor of "The Funky Green Panels"

Congrats Ronnie! That engine is an animal. In a Ghia that would certainly get you into the 1 club. Can't wait to see what it does in the SC! _________________ 71 Westy Roadcow
