Hello everyone!
Here I some news. I have posted new thread about trying to get my bus titled here: http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=521162
I chose to create a separate thread for that purpose, so please please please post over there regarding that. Some people gave me hard time and I know it's my fault I have not done it when I got the bus. I am trying to fix my mistake.
And now the summary of past few weeks.
I have asked you guys for a parking space as had to move my bus out of UZI's shop. Robin (headsling) offered me a place in New Jersey until his bus gets back from restoration in few weeks. So I got in touch with him and we drove to Philadelphia in his car to pick up my bus. We talked a lot on the way there and all I can say is that Robin is hell of a guy! He loves to drive and he traveled in so many places, that my own trips are nothing compared to his. And some time ago he bought his first bus that is being restored now. I can't wait to see what trips he is gonna make.
When we arrived in Philly, we met up with Matt (mattcuddy). UZI was busy that day. Robin liked UZI's shop. But who doesn't, it's freaking awesome.
We pushed like 4 buses out of the shop so we can get o mine UZI and Matt are bus hunting all the time I had a chance to see UZI second barn door that was on the east coast when I first met them.

i would have stored that bus there indefinitely but right now we are full out to the door, plus two of my buses outside at jDOTs house, plus two more stored outside at my own house.
we might have room for you again when robin throws you out. gotta get some junk sold first. _________________ Extravagant Lifestyle

I promised to finish the story. So here it goes!
---
So when we finally got to my bus, I jumped in and tried to start it. To my amazement, it started almost right away. So I backed up from the shop and we pushed all the other buses back inside.
It's gotten pretty plate so we had to head out back to NYC.
We stopped on the gas station, but when I looked on my fuel gauge, I decided not to take any gas as it read that the tank is almost full.
Then we were driving. Robin was leading the way in his new VW (Passat? I don't remember) and I was following him in my bus
Everything was going good when suddenly my engine died, when we were about 2/3 there. Luckily there was exit there and I was able to get of the road while the bus was still rolling. My fuel gauge still read there is some gas in the tank. But there was not. I think the gauge it's grounded poorly!
Robin came back for me. Luckily I had spare gallon of gas in my bus. If I will get a dollar every time I ran out of gas in a bus, I would have enough money to do a complete restoration by now haha.
So after short CPR, the bus was running again. Eventually we made it to New Jersey.
We parked the bus and I Robin dropped me of at the PATH train. Unfortunately it was delayed and the subway too. So I got home at like 5 am in the morning. I told my friend I will be back at midnight. Anyway, it doesn't matter. I was amazing trip I am glad I met Robin and I saw Matt again and I had the opportunity to drive my bus again! _________________ Hi! I am Peter from Czech Republic...

Going to sleep in a bus again! It was awesome day at Trailbash 2012! Great people, beautiful nature and shitload of fun! The bus survived but everything is dirty and stinks. _________________ Hi! I am Peter from Czech Republic...

Trailbash was amazing! I just got back to New York City. Holland Tunnel is $12. Holy Fuck!
I didn't found a place to keep it so it's on the street for now. Tomorrow at 11:30 is cleaning so I can't oversleep which I am notorious for. _________________ Hi! I am Peter from Czech Republic...

Have I posted about the grinding sound? I think I did.
Anyway, something in the back makes grinding noise sometimes. It's not loud but very distinguishable. And when that happens, the engines starts loosing power. Until it makes "Bhaaa" sound. Then it gains power again. Unfortunately sometimes it takes time until it stops doing this.
So here is my hypothesis: It's something in the transmission. I don't think the transmission is broken because sometimes it runs like a champ. When it is happening and I press clutch the sounds stops and the engine runs fine. I think there must be some object they gets picked up by the gears. It usually does it when in 4th gear going uphill. But sometimes it happens on other gears too. After sharp turn or braking it stops. So the biggest problems are highways that go uphill. It takes long time until it fixes itself. I usually pull to the shoulder and drive in lower gear until the grinding stops or I take the first exit and make couple of sharp turns.
Anyone have idea what it could be? Or what to do about it? _________________ Hi! I am Peter from Czech Republic...

Nope, I thought that too before, but we pulled the engine out with Matt and Gibbs and everything was there. _________________ Hi! I am Peter from Czech Republic...

Petr: Try the simple things first. Have you checked the torque on the rear axle nuts? Sometimes a loose axle nut with a drum letting the splines go will make a similar sound.
And glad you are back with your bus Petr. |

Just finished reading this thread, looks like I probably drove right past you when you were at the Pilot Point Dollar General. I was visiting my inlaws in Collinsville, TX at the time and was driving that route quite a bit. Of course, that was before I joined thesamba and before I found out my wife had no problem with me going air-cooled...
Awesome travels. Hope your time up northeast goes smoothly, and if you're in Idaho before I go back to Texas in December or in Texas after that, be sure to let us know where you're headed. _________________ 1961 Typ 117 (LHD Deluxe Ragtop)
