This was an awesome transformation to say the least!!! I would have loved to have a dad that worked ( body and paint ) on cars, but I do have a half brother that taught me body and paint. He let me work in his body shop when I was 16 years old up until I graduated high school. I then drove a truck from 4 am till around lunch and worked at a collision shop from 12 pm till 5 or 6 pm. I must say I like the restoration a lot better than the collision stuff!! When my father retired he bought 2 1966 GTO's ( convertible and hardtop ) for us to work on, and I ended up working on them mostly by myself. The cars now belong to my 10 and 13 year old sons. We also have a 61, 64, 73 beetles and a 70 westy ( so lots to keep us busy )!! Steve I sent you a pm. Thanks for all the inspiration and metal work photos.

Just spent two days reading this thread from start to finish. Steve, you do some amazing work. I wish it were possible to do work like you (as a hobbyist) but I feel confident that the quality of your work represents a commitment that only comes with many, many years of dedication to one's craft. You are to be commended. I hope that one day I get to see your VW in person.

Ditto here, I just spent the last couple of days reading this thread in it's entirety for the first time, and what an impressive build.

Steve, you are a master. I would have assumed the starting point was a parts car at best. Thanks for all of the detailed pics...you've got me wanting to learn to weld now Smile.

Awesome car.

Thanks Jason. I am lucky that I get to practice my craft every day. I just try to be the best I can be. I'm also lucky to know some pretty cool people that encourage me to set the bar higher each time I do something.

Sadly I have decided to sell my 59 BEETLE..... I am wanting to build a pole building so I can do even more restorations....and I don't want to take out a loan for the whole thing........ Thanks for all the interest in this build. I am not leaving here....I will be looking for a 63 ragtop in the future....... or a 60 rag.....

Well, The day has come.. The new owner will be picking Eddie up tomorrow. I hate to see him go.. but he is going to a good home. Someone that really will take care of him.
