so basically you want a new beetle. Get a new beetle, ruining an old one makes you just as cool as the people who drive the new ones. _________________ You CAN save them all. |

What'd you use for a latching mechanism on the trunk lid? I want to do this to the German Look '71 super I'm building but haven't really decided how to go about it. _________________ '60 Canadian Standard, '64 Bug, '66 Bug, '66 Bus, '69 Sunroof Bug, '71 Super, '72 Super, '73 Canadian Custom, '73 Super, '74 Love Bug, '83 Mexi Bug, '94 Mexi Bug, '99 New Beetle, '02 New Beetle Turbo S. I thought about doing it with mine, but the handle helps break up the flatness of such a big hood.
Looks like the neighborhood kids have been pinching bits off it without it.
All you need to do is weld the inside latch part to the hood then remove the handle and fill in the holes.
The button and safety hook part need removing too.

For long term I would do what I did. Make a plate weld the handle to the plate and weld the plate to the hood. I did this because it would have more surface area hitting rather than being held on by the small parts of the mechanism. It probably warps the metal and bends the hood if you don't have the plate. I also kept the second hood latch. All I did was extend it and add some metal so the latch doesn't close too far and smash the latch into the locking mechanism. |

Very slick, I like it! _________________ MAGIC SMOKE. The mysterious internal component of all electrical parts that allows them to work. If you let it out, the part will no longer work and could start a fire

| so i know this thread has some age to it but i love people willing to build a custom ride to their likings rather than a catalog "custom " car and i love seein the asshats chime in an tell you not to do it because they don't agree with it or are reluctant to say but tried it and did it wrong which means it cant be done.... hahahah. but as for shaving... my fat baby is just like how i like my women.... clean shaven! lol i mean everything.... door handles, hood handle, vents (side, front, and rear) i suicide the doors just so i could shave the hinges! shaved the engine bay and there isnt a hard angle in it! ass smooth rolling curves. if i could take it of and/ or weld it shut i did! never had great luck posting pics on here but if it dosnt work look on here for me i ve got one or 2 floating around im sure! ... but here goes haha |
