Definetley the creme de crop of campers, drivability though?
Nice to know somebody knows it full history and where abouts.
It would be a nice addition to your Westfalia collection and I am sure you WILL end up with it one day $$$$$$$$$$ is all it takes |
drive?
BAHAHAHAHAHA |
I'm sure that a '54 Westfalia would be just as drivable as my '55 Westfalia. I plan to put about 2500 miles on it in the next three weekends.
If anything...the 16" wheels will net a higher top speed right? |
that '54 was to be a 90mph machine. perhaps the first fast barndoor. _________________ .

The external tire radiuses are very close between the 16" and 15" tires so... no. You could run smaller tires, that will make your speedo read faster. It's all about perspective _________________ How to Post Photos

some people don't need money. the bus is parked next to a couple maserattis and some other very valuable cars. |
I hope thats the case.....I thought the bus was overpriced in the hands of Adams....and the current owner aparently paid the broker quite a bit more than Daryl was asking.
If the bus came up for same (Unlikely in my lifetime) I'd hope it would be at a loss to a good home. =)
That bus needs 30-50 thousand dollars worth of restoration work.....any money spend on the initial purchase would pretty much be a giveaway. |

Its a cool bus...no doubt. But it needs rockers, dogleg work, the wheel arches are fuuuuucked up from being tubbed. The entire undercarriage has quite a bit of rust that will need attended to.
Its had a nose clip done and it needs to be done again, wrong front bumper....
Needs the roof rack, tent, rear cabinet set, has the wrong headliner, blue interior, etc, etc, etc..
It sat outside in Mich. for quite a while...which took its toll.....its a huuuuge project without question.
I spent a few hours picking at it, laying on the ground, getting dirty, greasy, shot about four rolls of film....
If it were for sale, sure, I'd be interested, but I'd be familiar with the mess I was digging myself into..... |

Didn't it get cut wheel wells and a custom paint job and was for sale in the back of Hot VW's for a while and was residing in Florida or was that another BD camper?
Chris Morely, if I remember right knows more about the history and the whereabouts of said PM bus then anybody else I have ever talked to about it, though that was years ago.
And if I recall Terry Delaney here in Havasu did try to buy it years back
if it is the same bus
My memory seems to start going the older I get |
Both Lind and I have met (in person) every owner that bus ever had (With the exception of the late Brook Stevens).
That bus, to me, is the ultimate VW bus.
I should have bought it when it was for sale....=( |
Was his name Brooks Stevens? Or is it Brook Stevens? Is he the same Brooks Stevens that was an industrial designer? _________________ DKB |

it was Brooks Stevens, the famous industrial designer. he is the guy that designed the miller beer logo among many many other things.

That is what I was trying to put together. I have been reading about him and I think he was a pretty remarkable person. _________________ DKB |
