I used AN fittings and stainless coverd hose on my filter sysem I have never cut and fitted AN fittings and stainless covered hose . Found a video and tried this technique A three pound hammer a sharp wide chisel and and a hard block of wood. It worked very good. Put on some gloves and set up and use swift swing swing . Do a couple practice cuts!
. Cuts very clean. The force of the swing effects the quality of the cut. The cleaner the cut the nicer the fit

These were made by Wolfsurg West. . They are steel and bend and stretch for a great fit. I liked the raw steel look so I clear coated mine. The even have the ends brazed for ja clean edgeA very nice product

Engine is in the car. The only glitch and i should have checked into it, was that the engine will not go in with both carbs on. I feel like you would only need to remove one, but cannot verify as i removed both after i tried with both on without successs.

Really like the silver tins and I don't think you can go wrong with air cleaners either way
I like the round air cleaners just a little bit more...
Awesome car, luckily I'm not too far behind you in the rebuild of my 54. Can't wait to drive it again |

Thanks everyone. I agree with txoval I like the look of the Stock Okrasa filters over the stacks.
I will post some engine detail pics soon.
The engine has been started and ran a few times. I am in the proccess of Timming/Jetting Etc. I will share info as i go _________________ 57 Ragtop Semaphore Sedan

I am in the process of Jetting the car. Since I am using 34 Pbic Carbs with Custom/Enlarged Okrasa intakes. Plus Head work etc. I was aware that it may take some time to dial the jetting in. As with any of these one off builds there are very few exactly alike and not much info available
Here is what I have so far
1) The stock Okrasa 32 Pbic's Had Main Jet @ 127.5, Air Correction @ 190, Idle jet @ 50, Pilot Air Bleed @ 160 , Pump Jet @ 70 with a 26 Venturi I Understand that this was dialed in for a 1200
2) I found that Scat had a set of 34's that were jetted for a 1600 to 1800
They had a Main Jet @ 140, Air Correction @ 160, Idle jet @ 50, Pilot Air Bleed @ 150 , Pump Jet @ 50 with a 28 Venturi.
So with my build @1500 I decided to start with the Scat Set up and then go from there.
Before starting the engine the first time I hooked an oil pressure gauge to the spot were the stock low oil pressure sensor goes. I removed the spark plugs and turned the engine over until both oil filter systems were full and was able to get oil pressure reading to 30 or so Psi. With two filter systems and a Oil Sump it took 6 quarts. I used Brad Penn oil as I heard that it was very good stuff.
I had planned to start the engine on a Saturday so I was able to do this 3 or 4 Times over a few days to make sure My oil lines/Filters bearing passages/bearings were 100 % primed.
I discovered one oil leak in this process. The leak was where the Okrasa oil cooler returns the oil back to the engine. It is a compression fitting and no mater how tight it still leaked. So I removed the line and cut off the aluminum ferrrel. It was an odd size and I could not find one. So I modified a 1/4 plastic one . It had to be shortened and turned down in Dia. But it took care of the leakage
The oil leak was on the fitting to the right of the Distributor and the Oil pressure gauge was connected tot the brass fitting just to the left of the Dist
To start the car for the first time I set the timing using a 6 volt light. Put engine at TDC on #1 Hook light up turn Distributor until the light just comes on. _________________ 57 Ragtop Semaphore Sedan

Here are some of the things that i did different than a Normal Okrasa build
I did not like the balance tube in front of the Fan Shroud. So i reversed the Intakes and it is in the rear now.
Another item i did not like the stock location of the return spring on the Carb Linkage so i moved it behind the Fram Oil filter
Also on the linkage where the throttle cabe terminates i fabed a stainless cable end for a more finished look

When i put the 2 piece case together i made use of Porsche 356 Crown Nuts and sealing washers. In putting other parts of the engine i carried the crown nut thing a little further.
Crown Nuts on Carbs to Mainifold and also on the Linkage arm
On the Fuel Pump
On the Coil
On the Distibutor

Its been a while since i posted so thought i would give everyone an update. First off the 57 is a blast to drive. This engine has real drivablility. It has great low end torque and it pulls solid /hard all the way thru to the time i get out of the trottle. At this point i do no have a Tach but will soon.
The jetting took a while to get correct. My first set up was way too Rich
The plug on the left is the first setup
I took a big swiing at it and changed The Main/Air Correction and the pilot/
The plug on the right is the result WAY TOO LEAN!!!
It took about a month of changing things to get it where it needed to be. I will post final jet sizes. Maybe it will help someone to get close on an initial set-up. More Info to follow! _________________ 57 Ragtop Semaphore Sedan

I removed the plugs so many times i decided to make a tool so you could have a better feel when you thread the plugs back into the cylinder.
I took a push rod and cut it down. Then i took one of the treaded ends that come off the new spark plugs. Then i pressed the end into the pushrod
I have to say this tool makes it very easy to reinstall the plugs. Once you thread the plug into the cylinder the tool unthreads very easy leaving the plug behind. The feel with this tool is much keener than what a socket and extension provides. _________________ 57 Ragtop Semaphore Sedan
