I was watching Top Gear USA and they were testing the GT2 RS in a really hot weather. They called you up to ask why the car felt weak, Porsche told them that the heat makes a car fitted with a turbocharger lose 70-80 HP because of the hot air... I didn't understand quite why. Can anyone explain? _________________ 1973 VW Squareback |

Because cold air is more dense. That's why they use an intercooler. _________________ Glenn

Not a turbo expert but cool air is better in any engine and I would think that when you compress air it is going to heat up so if you start with cooler denser air then your going to be able to compress more air to the set boost pressure than starting with hot air which is thiner. I would think a turbo with 2 atmospheres of boost about (14) lbs would be twice as sensitive to air temp as a normally aspirated engine! _________________ 1960 Beetle And 1679cc DP W-100 & Dual Zeniths! |
