I had a blast and the camping was really fun, Manny did a great job cooking on barbara's mini grill.
The 67 bus ran really good , I might just take it to flanders next.
Thanks Chuck for one of the best show around. |

I second that Jim, despite what others have said, the camping was actually really good this year, very low key, no idiots screaming getting hammered making noise till the break of dawn, the food and the company was perfect.
that little grill was perfect
and the camp fire was second to none

| was at the show had a blast. this show has sent my bus drive into over drive. Just out of curiosity what do the judges look for? do they look for original or custom busses? |

All shows are different, and every judge is different. Your best lesson would be to not take the judging too serious.
Some take it more serious than others, and some are more qualified by experience to judge than others as not all shows have a point/rubric schedule.
Some will appriciate originality with some flaw, over restored and nicer than new.
Overall, if you're building a bus to be judged you're going to miss out on most of the other fun things than make owning a bus such a blast... _________________ Mike

The most important thing you can do to bring up your show points is to make sure everything is clean clean clean!
Some judges like originality, some like shiny things, some look for their buddies cars, and some like weird engineering changes.
Find out exactly what they list on their judging sheets. Sometimes they will offer them up, sometimes they guard them with their lives. I have had luck just hanging around and peeking over their shoulders at the clipboard.
I have been to shows where a fire extinguisher and first aid kit were absolutely necessary for the "safety" points. Saw one sand rail with carpeted floor mats so he could get the "carpet" points. Some shows put a large point value on "display" and a cheesy car with those horrible fake "kids in the corner" that we all despise actually wins over a clean car with no display.
A tasteful placard on a stand, a few mirrors to see the chassis and maybe a color matched jackstand with one wheel off would go a long way towards display points.
Trophies are a kick to get, but nowadays I find it much more fun just to enter the show and ignore the judging. |

| Thanks for the replys. I was just curious on how it worked. My plan is to buy a solid running bus and take some small trip, then I would see what works and dosnt and customize it to my likings |

Did you find anything yet? I know of a 73 Welty in Huntington that the owner might part with if it meant seeing it back on the road... _________________ Mike

| Our classes at Terryville and Litchfield are divided into custom classes and stock classes. Most of the bus guys put there vehicles into the stock classes. The closer it looks like factory the better the chance for max points. Chrome wheels and a magenta bus might look great but will lose some points as far as originality goes. We have had vehicles that have been totally stock but worn beat out vehicles that looked great but were modified. Yeah, I wouldnt get too exited about not getting or getting awards. Some people do but not for me either. Just enjoy the show and the swap and know that your entry fees go toward local charity. ChuckP |
