Anyone ever seen a air cooled vw with a body kit installed on it? Ive seen several variations of this look all using modern body kits (the typically "fast and furiouss" hondas etc.) on old school air cooled vw beetles. Ive considered doing this with my spare super beetle. Any idea what kind of kits theyre using to install them on a old beetle? I know that given enough time and money ANYTHING can be used but was just wondering if there was any that would install without THOUSANDS of dollars in extra labor.

You have to be a little more specific. What do you define as a 'body kit'? Years ago there was the "Muholland" look body kit (still available, I think: http://www.creativecarcraft.com/super.htm), and of course there are scores of different fenders, rear decks, etc, etc. The ultimate body kit is a component car conversion (a kit car, in layman's terms..).

Also, the Super Beetle has a McPherson Strut front suspension on which the front suspension struts are mounted to the body, so the body can't be removed without making the front suspension inoperative

We've tried to forget this little number from the Eighties...

That one is definitely a bit over the top - overstyled?

I much preferred the more subtle look of Steve C's Super.

And with the proper Fuchs wheels:

Notice the 930 style flares and integrated front bumper/air dam. This look captured the "turbo look" Beetle to perfection IMO. First saw it in a Hot VWs magazine with the title: Down Under Ground Pounder. Unfortunately those body parts were made in Australia and none too easy to obtain on this side of the world. To me, the non-flared but wider CCC fenders just didn't capture the 930 look.

Closest thing these days maybe the European Kaffer Cup fenders?

Letterman, A guy with a white stick would start beating his guide dog if that crossed his path.

Yeah, well, just because you have buckets of money doesn't mean you have any kind of taste. In essence, it's nothing more than a kit rebody now, but don't tell him that. Good waste of a '58. Shoulda sprung that on a late '70's model..

For $ 900 large, I could have thought of many better things to do with the money.

The Mulholland look is VERY similar to what I was meaning. Just a kit that could be added to the existing structures to make it look a bit different.

Similar to this front end....

or a obvious add on like this rear bumper.

Sky's the limit if you can find the parts. Sometimes stuff shows up in the classifieds here, or you can peruse through my previous link and this company, though they are harder to get a hold of: http://www.bgwspectre.com/

RE: the FB photos - I'm not too sure what 'look' these folks were shooting for, but I'd say that they missed... the stock Beetle styling doesn't lend itself to working well with the addition of any Ricer-style bodywork or snow-removal equipment front 'spoilers'..

The ONLY styling I'd consider as looking good on a Beetle or SB is the Euro-Look/Kafer Cup styling...

As EVfun pointed out, there is an entire Forum post on VW abominations & abortions - http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=149769&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

If you plan to build a custom, go big - like Snorkelstang - or go home. Laughing
